At the end of messages sent from my BB, I get "Powered by Shangmail" as the signature.

Very tempted by the service, as it is free (however, how long will it stay free). The other thing is that messages will pass through (and stay?) on their servers in China (co. seems to be located in Beijing). Not 100% confident with that (but then again who do you trust more, the Chinese government or Gmail, or at least which is the lesser of two evils?)

I'm presently using the BB Gmail app, which I am generally quite happy with, but being able to integrate and utilise the email function of the blackberry is very tempting.
You can remove the signature by going to the configuration menu. You can add any signature you want.
Have u encountered the problem I identified in my previous post with double notification envelopes showing up?

In regards to the worries about security: I am more freaked out by google knowing where I'm at at any time using using my IP adress and other info they gather form me, than the chinesse government. However, I don've live in America so I don't see the threat.

Nope, not having the same double envelope issue as you.

One thing I notice is that when there is a new mail, I don't get my mail icon changing to red, like you do when you get a message through BES, are others getting this notification? Also, no audible sounds when new message arrives.

I am finding message delivery not to be that quick, maybe 10 mins after message sent when I test it, this compares to the google blackberry app time lag as well.

Thanks for the hint in relation to the auto sig, I have now removed it.

Re security, like you I'm not in the USA. However its still the chinese government (but then again I do live in the SAR, so good chance the chinese government is already snooping here already!!)

The icon doesn't change to red. U can set the audible sound in ur profiles. There would be Shangmail listed.

The lag that you mentioned is there but it varries.

Im very troubled by the double counting of mails..

On a related note, have u managed to open attachments and recieve calendar appointments?

yep, sorted the profile thing (well I know where it is to sort out).

can't open attachment, just sent a doc file, no luck (gmail bb app can open the attachment though). i did try the "download attachment" option, but it was stuck at 0% for five mins so gave up.

I think my provider has some firewall issues that are incompatible with os 4.5 It works fine when i put a sim card from other providers but wont work with t mobile. They said they are getting BB service by April so I'm gonna have to wait till then.

OP - thank you for the information.

I sign up and testing out the service and it's pretty good. Although I just try to access their website and it's DOWN. Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

Please tell me why bother with this app if my emails work just fine straight out the box? I have 5 different email accounts and they all work flawlessly. What makes this app unique? After-all, you've got to have a carrier for phone service and they all have service books, no?

some people (like me) have a blackberry without a blackberry data plan, meaning we can't use the blackberry email app. this service allows you to use the native blackberry email app.

and just to add to the post above, its not because we don't want to fork the cost, but just because the providers don't offer BB data plan

Hello,

I been testing out ShangMail over the past 3 days or so, and its pretty cool. There about a 2-5 min delay before my email comes in from my Hotmail address.

Not sure why so many of you are fussed about it being in China? What difference does that make? Information is passed about all over the place via the Internet.

Now I need a bit of help if possible. Basically to get ShangMail working I download the CMIME service book from here: Free BlackBerry Push mail with Shangmail (BlackBerry Without BIS)

Now I can get email no problem, but when I reply to any emails a tick is shown against the email, then a small D appears above the tick. But the recipient never gets the email. Even after a whole day of waiting. So clearly its not being routed.

If you click the service book page link, you have two options to download:

- Service book Anworm TCP for All Network
- Service book Anworm TCp & Wifi (select mode) Update 07-feb-2009: add email service Book to TCP-Wifi. work with all network.

Now the first one doesn't seem to be working for me, but I'm wondering if anyone managed to get their ShangMail replies working?

I did follow the guide for removing the browser, installing the custom service books and then re-adding the browser. That has worked, but I still can't send email. I can recieve email and compose them fine.

I've linked ShangMail to a hotmail.com address by the way.

Thanks

i got it to work sending and receiving emails with a gmail account.

which emails are you guys trying?

seems to suggest you need pop access and smtp access to receive and send emails.

does hotmail support sending emails from a third party app these days?

Try setting up a disposable gmail account and see if it works like that (that is what I did). There may possibly be some conflict (if that is at all possible) between the gmail app and the shangmail app.
