That sounds pretty advanced. And he didn't have to use an additional attachment to do that? I doubt BB has anything like that (using the BB camera that is).

These are special QR Codes, not traditional bar codes. They're big in Japan and have even started showing up on business cards. Nokia has had these scanners that work with the phone's camera on their N-series devices for a long time. Folks embed their personal info into a code, you scan it, and it's ready to add to your contacts list. Web pages, product information, even discount coupons can be embedded in these images. It's been a Nokia gimmick outside of Japan to a large extent, but QR Codes were starting to gain a little traction in the U.S. until this economic downturn but the kabosh on projects like this. Nokia was the leader and there was a possible ad campaign featuring QR Codes, a treasure hunt/scavenger hunts using them, and Nokia product give-aways. It still might happen, but there is less enthusiasm for it now that everyone's profit margin is slim or nonexistent.

Hey, looking into this myself. Wanting to tag company assets with barcodes for warranty and inventory purposes.

I found a Bluetooth enabled barcode reader that stores up to 4000 scans. You can scan and store or scan directly to an app on your BB through BlueTooth.

Free software for PC and/or Blackberry.

I can't post the link, but check out the Microvision ROV Barcode Scanner with Bluetooth on microvision.com

I am just starting the investigation, if anyone tries this, please let me know how it works for you.

I have this BT BC scanner and it's associated software; ScannerWedge on my BB. I am trying to find a way to inventory my blu rays without going to the store and buying ones I already have.

ScannerWedge has a testing option in the menu and so far, all it ever says is connecting. Not sure if I need another program to make this work.

I recently attended the Blackberry WES show in Orlando, and also saw this Scanner at one of the booths I was visiting. Apparently it will hold up to 4000 or so scans, and can be customized with the BBerry for Wedge software. During the show, I also found out a local company was offering a discount for the show, on this unit. I found their Blog posting for CommXperts, and it mentions the discount. Does anyone know what discount this was? I am considering the same Microvision ROV Scanner with my Sprint Curve.
It looks like CommXperts sells this unit for $239.

There is a QR Code reader in BB Messenger 5.0, but it's designed for specific codes that use BlackBerry PINs.

what's the file install size?

there is a new one out there called barcode backwards:

barcode --> "edocrab"
The last one I used though ..had to run in the back ground 24-7 and huge memory foot print. Haven't tested edocrab much though ...out of app memory atm.

I tried edocrab on my storm.. kept crashing and rebooting when I ran it (on startup, I never even got to try to read a barcode).. ended up removing it.. I would love to see if they release a working version soon.
