However, you will need to close each application at individually. It's easiest to do this when you're exiting the application.

I think all the hidden applications eat a lot of my battery.
Accidental/inadvertent pushing the red phone or the back-button does not close the application.
Isn't there a way?
When I reboot the device even remembers the last read message, the last searched contact,...
Running applications can definitely impact battery life.
Some applications close by pressing and holding the escape (back) key. However, it's best practice to press the menu key and select close/exit.
You can see what programs are running by pressing Alt + Escape. You will always see Home Screen, BBM, Browser, Call Log and Messages.
