I have a new 8100 O/S 4.2.0.51 and I want to find out how to enable/disable voice mail and how to vary the number of rings before voice mail activates. There is no Options -> Voice Mail on my menu. It goes into voice mail after about 5 rings and sometimes I have not been able to get to the phone in time.

If i'm not mistaken that has to be changed through your carriers voicemail options. That is of course if your VM service allows you to change those options.

I've noticed that for some reason there is a major delay as to when i'm alerted of new VMs. For example I received an alert this morning about VMs that were left yesterday. Anybody else experiencing this problem? Is this something I should call Rogers about or is this a handset problem?

On O2 in the UK activating Voice Mail is 1750 and deactivating is 1760.

To vary when it cuts in key

**61*901*11*5#

The 5 is the time in seconds before VM cuts in and you can set it from 5 to 30. I have not tried this.

I periodically experience that with T-Mobile. I think its more of a network issue than a handset issue since it happens with both my RAZR and the Pearl.

I have a prob with my answerphone icon being permanantly on my screen, my network cant seem to resolve it, i have even had a new h.set..any ideas????

In that case I think i'm going to call up my carrier and see what they can do. This is the 3rd time it's happened in 2 weeks. It's a good thing none of the VMs were super important.

With GSM phones, you can usually program these things using the GSM Control Codes. Search the web for code sequences specific to your carrier. For example, I use Cingular and set it to wait 30 secs before forwarding to VM.

Cingular VM Rings:
1. Note the tel # that your Voicemail uses, including 1xxxyyyzzzz (all digits including 1).

2. to set your delay, dial

*61*1xxxyyyzzzz**30# <send>

the number 30 above can be any value <= 30 and is the delay in seconds before the call goes to voicemail.

Here's a site I just found that has many codes, there are dozens of sites like this that show diff codes. Good luck.
