Hey everyone,

So my mom wants that pink Pearl from VZW but she does not need the BB service, like the email, data plan, or anything like that. She wouldnt know how to use it if you ask me . So anyways, VZW says she cant get the phone without that service. What I think we should do is get the same phone from Ebay. Then we can just activate it through VZW's website, keeping her same plan, right?

It will automatically add the BB Service whenever you activate the device. Without it, it wont activate.

+1. When I ordered mine I got them to describe how the service worked for the device and they claimed that the BB itself required the plan.

If you're looking something that'll have some of the same features, but can work as 'just a phone', take a look at the voyager or the enV. My Mom has the enV and loves it. They even make pink silicon and hard plastic shells for the enV.

don't know about verizon, but i got my pearl off eBay and have not yet added a data plan thru AT&T and the phone and texting and everything else functioned from the get go after i inserted my SIM

Verizon requires the data plan. of the big 4 they are the only one.

Not really, I wish all carriers would require it. Would save a great deal of troubleshooting on this and many other sites. As well as lowering support calls. It is a glorified phone/media player without the data plan

^ +1. Like I stated before, if you really want something that essentially does the same media functions, you could spend a lot less and get a Juke or an enV.
