Hi,

I'm migrating from T-Mobile G1 and want to import my contacts somehow. I went to the T-Mobile store and had them try and copy the sim card, but that did not work. I'm suspecting it's in the wrong format or something. Thus I want to do plan B. I have a excel(.csv) file with all my contacts in it which was exported from google mail. Can I somehow import that into my BlackBerry Tour somehow? I do NOT have Outlook or Outlook Express. I'm reading that in Desktop Manager there is a way, however I don't see any option in there where it says 'import from .csv' etc..... Just need a little more guidance.

Is there a template anywhere of the correct format needed for the Excel(.csv) format?

Also, the following is from the blackberry.com website searching for ASCII. Its the PDF Users guide for DM 4.7. Look at page 17 for how the data needs to be formatted.

None of this works... This is ridiculous if you ask me.. I even work in IT and data manipulation.... Anyone with an Excel template that actually works?

I'm sorry you feel this is ridiculous. Just trying to help.

As far as I know, there are only a handful of ways to sync contacts.

Outlook - used by me and works.

Outlook express - used by me and works.

ASCII Importer/Exporter - I have never used this but people have claimed it to work. This is also documented on the blackberry support website which I pointed you to since CSV(Comma Separated Value) files are plain ASCII.

Yahoo - Never used by me.

Seems like you could just set up a test contact on the BB and export using the ASCII importer/exporter (should be listed as an option under the sync settings in Desktop Manager) for a template.

Never done this myself so I can't verify but that's the approach I'd look into as an IT guy.

In the long run, I'd recommend syncing with Outlook or something similar for future data portability.
