Theres a page with a link to download an update for the storm, but I keep getting an error. Does it work for anyone else?

What is this update?

Yeah, there is no link for a download for me either, I am sure its an OS update to fix some initial problems, who knows, but I am sure we will find out soon enough, maybe an early xmas present from RIM?

Did you get the page to open that has a GIANT button that says Check for Updates >>

I was able to, however I had to allow some xml file (Goldbar on top of IE) to do its stuff.
If you arent seeing the Check for Updates >> button, check security settings in IE, or try from a different PC and see if you get the prompt (gold bar on IE).

oh... seeing from what y2k is saying, you need to open this from your Storm, not your PC.

It worked for me, but I had to have my Storm connected and use Internet Explorer.

I still await my Storm but I did check out the link and noticed this disclaimer:

Important Note: This page requires Windows® Internet Explorer® v5.5 or later, running on Windows®. If you want to update your BlackBerry Device Software, you will need to revisit this page using Windows Internet Explorer.

That might be why some (including me -- I run Firefox on a Mac) cannot see the update link.

There is an update to fix the battery drain problem due out any day now. I was on the phone with them about something else today and they just happened to mention that. I didn't ask if it did anything else.

So how is this update being sent out and when?

And what is the update on this webpage above?

EDIT:
Because when I run the update, i get an error saying it lost connection. Which is impossible, since im connected to a T3 LAN.

For the update to work you need BlackBerry Desktop software installed (4.7), and your blackberry phone connected to the desktop software. When you click the button it launches/connects to the desktop software which is linked to your phone and it will check for updates and install if available.

No updates have been posted yet.

Maybe YOU don't have BES e-mail, but our Verizon Storms have no problem getting BES e-mail. Total misinformation on your part.

BES works just fine on the Storm. If you have issues check with your BES admin or your provider to make sure you have correct plan.

Verizon users might be better off going to -> BlackBerry - Update your Device Software

In anycase, per RIM's KB article... BlackBerry Search Results

Quote:
To perform a web-based BlackBerry Device Software upgrade, the following system requirements must be met:
  • BlackBerry smartphone must have at least 32 MB of flash memory
  • BlackBerry smartphone must be able to support BlackBerry Device Software 4.5 or later. For example, BlackBerry® 8700 smartphone, BlackBerry® 8800 series, BlackBerry® Pearlxxx8482; 8100 Series, or BlackBerry® Curvexxx8482; 8300 Series
  • Computer must be running Windows® 2000 or later
  • Computer must have an available USB port
  • Computer must be running Windows® Internet Explorer® 6 or 7

Note: BlackBerry smartphones that are associated with a BlackBerry® Enterprise Server or with BlackBerry® Professional Software cannot perform web-based BlackBerry Device Software upgrades
In anycase... no updates have been released for the VZW Storm/9530 yet...

No, I mean you can't do web updates if you have BES email.
