The OS wipe and reload is about the only thing that fixes that. It's annoying but fortunatly doesn't happen very often.

I had this same problem and a OS upgrade solved this problem. So, if you have not upgraded to a newer OS and one is available for your Curve, this might be another option for you to consider.

Just as an FYI. This is a know bug for RIM. Here is the knowledge base article on this bug: BlackBerry Search Results

OK I have a somewhat easy solution to this.

Open desktop manager, backup your phone.

Then unplug it from the computer.

Next, on your Blackberry go to your menu.

Then Options, Security Options, General Settings.

When you are in General Settings hit the menu button.

IF YOU HAVE NOT BACKED UP YOUR PHONE YET AND GO ON THEN YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA ON YOUR BLACKBERRY

Then select wipe handheld.

Follow the instructions to wipe handeld.

Restore from Desktop Manager and no more missed call icon.

Will doing a wipe cause you to lose any apps even if you backup?

If you just do a security wipe from Options >Security Options >General settings >Wipe Handheld it will leave all your apps and OS installed. However, any data in them will be gone.
