WOW ... is all i can say.. If the CEO of Sprint is talking about a new Nextel BB, I am in shock. I thought Nextel BB's were dead after the 7520!

I don't actually think Sprint can financially afford to back the production of any iDEN products these days. And god knows Motorola isn't going out on a limb for Sprint...

I agree my service is the worst its ever been. Called in a Drunk driver tonight and got dropped by 911.

Ok, I haven't had a chance to read this whole thread yet, but I will correct as soon as I get done with work.

To PowerCell and all those who say Sprint doesn't care about Iden: 17 new handhelds will be released for the Nextel side of things this year alone. I heard the same thing from my CEO and our rep about Q4 release for Iden BBerry.

Other rumor I heard is we are finally getting the Curve sometime in April Can't wait.

SithApprentice: Sprint does not offer Ready Link any longer to those who do not already have it.

I have a source that also said there will be an iDEN blackbery by the end of this year, and that is all they know. No exact date, just "by the end of this year" but for sure, there is going to be one again.

They have already released a couple of them (i335 and i570 we carry in the store here). Q3 of 2007, Sprint/Nextel corp wasn't much different then it was in 2006.

Sprint ain't going anywhere.

LG Rep came in today, they are releasing a phone that utilizes the "QChat" (or whichever name it is going by). Pretty basic phone, should be in the $70 or so price range. LX-400 or 440 (can't remember).

So there are quite a few companys that would lose out if Sprint went out of business.

wdduck was right on the money! He called this almost a month ago and was roundly poo-poo-ed. I didn't believe Nextel would survive, let alone release a new Blackberry. But his info was spot-on. Kudos!

I for one can agree to both sides of the Nextel issue. I hate their voice and data coverage, probably the worst I have experienced in my area. But, even with other companies having PTT on devices, my last test with ATT PTT was around a 30 second delay, opposed to ~1sec. Say working on a construction site with a crane, spotter needs instant communication with the operator (and their company gave them phones instead of walkie-talkies), they would need the instant PTT. Yes, their CS is horrible, but when you look closely, they all are. I will say that they have been the BEST at giving up monitary credit to apologize for inconveniences, opposed to offering "bonus" minutes. I have my plan set to the minutes I need, I dont want more for free. Its been rumored for years now that iDEN will be dead by (whenever) and has yet to happen. If they can release a better selection of phones/devices I see a chance for revival.

But how many people are on Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile? I guarantee more than 11 million...

I use to have a Nextel before they were bought out by sprint, i chose them because every one of my friends had Nextel and we all used ptt. this was the most frustrating network i have ever had experience with, the coverage was terrible and their phone were at least 2 years behind and twice as big as every other major phone company. I use to think it wasnxxx8217;t that bad till my family switched to VZW, i dropped them after about 4 years and never looked back. P.S out of about 30 of my friends that had Nextel maybe 2 still use them.

There's your problem right there... trying to use cell phones where traditional two-way radios are the appropriate product.

i have had nextel since '97 ( i think ) and yes they coverage is spotty and non excitant in some places but i could not see my company using anything but that, the instant contact is a must in construction, and has saved my butt plenty of times. Now don't get me wrong i am not a shill for nextel my partner makes it a habit of combing thru the bill and calling customer service every month, sometimes he get a credit sometimes not..... i just hope they come out with another phone other then the one i have i would hate to carry 2 phones
