Default ?s about wifi calling ability on an 8320.

Please Login to Remove!

I have an 8320 on a plan with no roaming.

I've read the other threads and am hoping for a conclusive answer to the below questions.

1. With the hotspot @ home service can I make calls over any wireless network anywhere in the world for free, with no roaming or airtime charges?

2. If no to #1, can I make free calls with no roaming or airtime charges from t-mobile hotspots?

3. Without hotspot @ home can I make wifi calls at either T-Mobile hotspot or over wi-fi networks? I understand I am charged for these calls.

4. How do I know if I am connected by Wi-Fi? I was in a panera bread and thought I connected to their wi-fi network, but it still showed EDGE in the top right hand corner. The faint wi-fi symbol did appear and it said T-Mobile - Panera at the top.

1- Yes, that is my understanding as long as you have H@H

3- Yes, you will be charged your minutes on your plan

4- Wifi will be bold/black if you are getting wifi connection.

Do a quick forum search on "Panera" and you will see some threads there about not getting UMA. There are lots of threads about places with "hotespots" where you do NOT get UMA.

Thank you very much for helping me, a newby, out.

I'm not so concerned about Panera specifically.

However, I do want to confirm (and I am asking if these are right):

When I am connected via wi-fi without H@H there are no roaming or long distance charges anywhere in the US or Internationally (2 separate questions) but I am docked for the minutes?

With H@H it is the same as above but I an not charged for the minutes?

What is the advantage to connecting at a t-mobile hotspot location like Borders, Starbucks or Kinkos?

Thanks again.

Yes to both, as long as you are calling a number in the US. (If you are in a foreign country and call another number in that country, it will count as an international call)

If you have H@H, you can make free calls from these locations. The phone is pre-configured for these locations and will connect automatically
