Default 8820 / wi-fi speed (not)

i've posted in some different threads before but not gotten any good answers why my 8820 seems no quicker via wi-fi (linked to home or work 5+Mbps wi-fi networks) than at&t's EDGE coverage. well, last night i saw this interesting thread below. lots of discussion (not all of which i understood) but comment 117 intrigued me. it suggested there might be some problem with 8820 wi-fi if information is copied over from an earlier blackberry. our tech guys used something to copy all my old 8800's information onto my new 8820. wi-fi will work (i get the blue Wi-Fi logo and userid when linked), but i never see RED activity when data are moving. it looks the same as with EDGE (even when i turn EDGE off). i'll ask our tech guys but this is all pretty new. anyone think the theory in comment 117 might be valid? if so, any ideas for how to work around / fix what we've already done? (apart from disappointing wi-fi speeds, 8820 performance is fine.) thx

PS, it was comment 117 on bberry. on real computer, it's

[followup, here's what our tech guys are going to try to do for me (when one of them comes up for air). i am hopeful it may make 8820's wi-fi work better. will report later]

______, I THINK what the question amounts to is when the new device was set up, was the old device backed up prior, and then that backup restored to the new device? If restored, was it done with just the "Restore" button, where you gave it the backup file name and it then restored everything in that file, vs going through the Advanced button, and only selecting "Address Book", "Calendar", "Tasks", "Notes", and/or "Messages? If the first option was used, then it also restored ribbon settings and other device-specific settings.

If I understand what's being discussed, the steps that are being suggested are to back up the current device, wipe the device clean (I'd probably reinstall apps, choosing to not backup/restore during that process so that it is a "clean" wipe, then when it's back up from the install, go into Backup/Restore and then Advanced, and only select the specific app entries listed above.
