Default BB Browser working with MediaNet UNLIMTED, without BES/BIS

Please Login to Remove!

So I bought a refurb Curve 8310 from AT&T. Switched the sim into a Nokia 2610 and then enabled MediaNet UNLIMITED $15 plan (I did not have any data plan b4 this), and then popped the sim back into the Curve. I've been using it for a week or so using Opera Mini and GMail since I figured I couldn't use BB Browser and download OTA.

So today I clicked on a link for an OTA only BB theme and...IT WORKED! I was browsing through Opera Mini and then it directed me to the BB Browser and completely downloaded and installed the theme.

I did some research and it seems that people who usually do not have BIS/BES plan cannot download OTA because the browser doesn't work at all but for some reason my browser works completely.

I know of people who have been using a blackberry with the MediaNET Unlimited plan for months and AT&T hasn't found out but I have never seen a BB with enabled BB Browser without BIS/BES.

I don't want to abuse this feature and let AT&T figure out that I am using a blackberry, but I would like to use Push E-mail if I can. Should I just use the BB Browser to OTA download and use Opera mini + Gmail for everything else or should I use the BB Browser for OTA, use Opera for browsing, AND use Blackberry Push E-Mail for my e-mail.

I don't even know how to set up push e-mail so I haven't even attempted, I figured I'd ask here first.

If I understand your post, you want to use push email without a BlackBerry Data Plan?
If so... then the answer is simple... you can't.

Wirelessly posted (T-Mobile 8320)

Agreed with penguin. To use push email you must have a BIS data plan from AT&T. It will not work otherwise.

imho, I went w/o the place for a few months, and this phone is great, but without the plan your missing the whole point of having a BB. Just spend the extra 30$ a month n get the plan.

Its kinda like having the best gaming system ever, and no games for it.
