Default Anyone on Fido ?

Please Login to Remove!

hi all I had some questions regarding Fido if anyone is using them. I have recently picked up 2 BB's an 8520 first then a 9000. The 8520 was a Fido unit and the 9000 Rogers. I unlocked the 9000 and am using it now. I have Fido pre paid. I set it up with the Unlimited Personal Email and IM2 for BlackBerry®. I was interested in the data add on but they say it's not compatible with this package. You have to chose one or the other.

Anyway I can check my emails online with the smart phone data add on. but they note "This service is not compatible with BlackBerry email and application services." so am I to assume that none of the app that are available will work with the add on?

Also on the 9000 I can't get it to change the browser to anything but hotspot?

Your enabler package specifically says email and IM. No web browsing included. With BlackBerrys you must have a bona fide BlackBerry data plan to use the data services. Yours is a limited feature plan that gives you a couple of those services, spelled out clearly. In order to use wifi you also need the BB data plan. Wifi browsing won't use up any of your data allowance, but you need the BB data plan to connect to RIM's servers.

they have a data plan available 500mb per month ( well sorta ) but I am not sure if it is just for internet or if anything else will work? That's what I was trying to figure out if you get the 500mb package if it connects to the RIM severs or just browser.

"The smartphone data add-on includes 500 megabytes of domestic data for on-device browsing, email, instant messaging and application use.

NOTE: This service is not compatible with BlackBerry email and application services."

Guess this sort of answers some of my questions ( not compatible BB email or app )

Yep. You need a plan that specifically says "BlackBerry". Regular smartphones work through the carrier's data plan. With BlackBerrys it's a 3-way deal between the BB itself, the carrier, and RIM.
