Default 9330 Curve - WIPING message

Please Login to Remove!

I downloaded desktop software in order to get pictures from my BB 9330, which is password protected. It prompted me to enter Device password and I did, but did not recognize it. I tried my unlock password again, then my VM password. It gave me a message to contact Sys. Admin and initiated a Wipe of my phone. I pulled the battery before it reached 20% in Wiping Progress and contacted my help desk to see if there is a way to stop the Wiping that started, but after 24hrs they have not answered me.

I plugged battery back in today to see if they were able to reset it, but after initializing it started the wiping progress over.

Any ideas on how I can stop the wiping progress, or if I allow it to complete...what will it actually wipe from the phone? Only thing "local" on the phone may be a couple contacts I added and some pictures taken.

Any help is appreciated, since I cannot use my phone until I can find resolution.

You are going to have to let the wipe finish. I'm surprised you didn't screw up the whole works and have to reinstall the OS when you pulled the battery. At any rate, recognize that there's a reason for the wipe, and that reason is why it won't allow you to stop it.

Likely it is just going to wipe all user data and settings, leaving the OS and applications (but without personalized settings or any stored app data). You may find that it also wiped the media card, if you had one installed.

try removing the media card before turning the BB back on again, if thats where you have your pictures stored.

if your BB is on a BES the wipe can be cancelled by your admin, if not, the BB will have to compelete the wipe before you can start using it again.

@ Poddy - I think my help desk was doing something on their end to cancel and reset the phone like you said, but I have been unable to get them to call me back. I am assuming a BES is something like an encrypted server?? But all the work phones are run through central control point where they have access to it and provide passwords and resets etc.

I do not have a card in the phone, so that isn't an issue.

@ Ira - I don't have anything special set on it, but security code to access my work communications server...and the photos I took yesterday.

Why would the desktop application initiate a wipe on the phone? The passcode I used is the one that I use to unlock it for use...is there another access code I should know about to access device through the desktop software?

BES referrs to the enterprise server. If your email, calendar, etc. are reconciled with your Desktop wirelessly, then you are on BES.

I'm guessing the max allowed password attempts on the BlackBerry is set to three attemps. As Desktop Manager requires you to enter the device password when you connect, I'm assuming Desktop Manager adopts the max attempts setting on the device, and that is what happened, same as if you entered the wrong password too many times on the handset.

I don't have an answer for why Desktop Manager didn't accept your password entry the first time, except if it was a typo on your part.

Not exactly.
Once the wipe begins, it cannot be stopped.

BES can cancel the wipe only before the wipe command reaches the handheld.
