Default New to BB and BES and I have questions

Please Login to Remove!

I am in the U.S. Amry and I purchased my own BB8800 so the IT folks will not set me up on their BES. Can I set up my own BES on a computer with DSL connection at home (I know I have to have Exchange server isntalled and that is not a problem)? So the question can it be done?

Yes, it can be done.

This is probably a good option for you:
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Enterprise Server Express

Umm, I don't mean to rain on your parade, but do you have any exchange experience? You have to set up an entire active directory and exchange environment before you can even get into installing BES. that's a lot of work to put one BB on a BES. Its kind of overkill. Use gmail, you will get your mail just as quickly.

that being said, I run BESX on my home network. DC, Exch and BES all on one server. it works. It works better on Comcast cable than it did on Verizon DSL though. And don't let your ISP catch you running a server on a home account. you are going to need a service to handle your DNS and mail redirection as most ISP's block port 25 for home users. Good luck!

Actualy I don't have any experience, that being said I am a quick learner and I love dealing with computer problems. The issue with gmail is that even if you set it to reply form the account the email was retrieved, when I reply usig gmail (either service book or gmail app on the BB) from it still shows the from address as <gmail address> on behalf of <army address>, I don;t like that, is there a way around this issue?
