Default Sending SMS messages - hide phone number

Please Login to Remove!

Hi There,

I wonder if somebody could please help me out, or point me in the right direction.

I have recently purchased a 8310 and I am still waiting for my old mobile number to be ported to my new phone.

I would thus like to send txt/sms messgaes from my new Blackberry but either hide the new Blackberry's phone number or have thr SMS shown as coming from my old mobile telephone number.

Is this at all possible?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You can hide your number when making calls but I don't think you can do it for sms.

What you could do however is create an auto text entry where say xx = reply to 0xxxx xxxxxx.

Options > auto text, hit menu key and select new then enter replace xx with 'reply to .... Then at the end of every message simply type xx and hit trackball and those words will appear.

Also, you can edit the number on your SIM card.
Haven't tried anything that drastic (I removed the 1 from the front) but the change stuck.

Cheers!

Thanks for that mky.dinis - I did change the number on the SIM but the text message was still sent with the original phone's number.

Thanks for the tip though.

If you've got a data plan and the UK providers have web interfaces to send text messages you can do this through the browser and put the old number in the return. In the US:

Tmobile's:
https://web.mms.msg.t-mobile.com/sms...smsc&locale=en
Sprint's:
SprintPCS 2Way SMS
Verizon's:
https://text.vzw.com/customer_site/jsp/messaging_lo.jsp

These send to a bunch of different networks. I've never used them and privacy may not be so good.

You don't need to be logged in to send a text. It's probobly on the front page of o2's site.

There is a link on the front page of the O2 – The UK's Leading Provider of Mobile Phones & Broadband website but you have to login to get to it and when you do it says page not available. Is this what you mean't a.petrov?

Thanks
