Hey guys. What's the best os you've used for your best battery life. I have a friend who complains that he gets horrible battery life. Him and I doing the same things, the same time, I have way more battery life on my BlackBerry bold. Hmmm. Can anyone let me know what's a good os for him to use to get the best battery life? Thanks I appreciate it!

Kent

I have found .237 to be the best build yet all around for my Bold 9000. I don't really have any battery problems with .237.

I mean the best bat life for the 8900. Cuz there's a huge difference between his curve 8900 battery life with the same settings as my bold.

May be you should ask him to try .168 which has been used by my friend , and he told it was very good.

I'm running the latest official OS and get two full days on a charge and I use my phone like crazy. I have bluetooth and wifi on all the time, send/receive 30+ txt msgs per day, several emails both incoming and outgoing, several phone calls 5-10 mins and backlight set at 100% w/ powersave on.

I am using 4.6.1.206 and I get about a day and a half of battery life out of my 8900. Much better than the out-of-the-box OS from Tmo.

The guy I bought my 8900 from gave me this website that sells BB 8900/ Storm batteries for 11.99, and he gave me two with the phone. I will get a a hold of him and post the link. Always useful to have a bettery or two with ya.

Anyone who's seen me post before about this can skip this. My theory is the OS itself does not affect the battery life. If there's nothing running on 3 different phones with 3 different OS they all last the same. If you use exactly the same talk time/features they all last the same. But nobody can do that, so they claim the OS affects their battery. This weekend I use BT 4 hours, talk time 70-80 min, opened 30 emails, sent a bunch of txt+mms, some BB messenger, used GPS once, was in a hospital with a crummy signal 3 hours. Battery lasted 2 full days. OS .114 that came with the phone. Sometimes I've used/opened a bunch of stuff (Viigo in particular) and notice I think my battery is draining faster than usual. I can't find anything in the running programs to close but I pull the battery anyway. Things improve then. Can't explain it but it does. I think upgrading the OS does the same thing.

My battery performance improved significantly after upgrading from the T-Mobile OS shipped w/ the phone to v. 206...

Now I do other features like reduced brightness to 80%, turning off the backlight dimming, and use standby mode when I go to bed at night (I sleep with my phone near me because it's my 2nd alarm)....

I am pretty pleased with the battery performance at this point in time...

I have to disagree with this to a point. I think all of the later releases of the OS have been very similar in battery life usage but 4.6.1.114 that the 8900 ships with is outright terrible as far as battery life is concerned.

If he lives in a low reception area, it could be that his is going flat overnight because of that. Do you both leave it on overnight? It could also be that you have enabled Auto Off to turn it off overnight, and he hasn't.

My 8800 lasts a few days if I don't use it much, but will go flat in half a day if I start Google Maps and exit from it by using the Back button instead of choosing Exit from the menu. It keeps running in the background, and I think it's using more power because of the GPS.

I upgraded his to 239 last night, We'll try it and see. If not, 199 is going to go on :P. hehe. Thanks for all your help!

And in my opinion, the OS helps A LOT.
