Default How to Add A Second BES Account To An OS6 BBerry

Please Login to Remove!

I read that OS6 was supposed to support 2 BES accounts (and possibly more) on a single OS6 device but I can not figure out the proceedure to add the second account.

I read that the second account had to be activated via cable but I am a newbie and have not seen that before. Does that mean that I have to install BBerry Desktop software on the Server and then follow some activation process OR does it mean it can be activated via WebDesktop and a USB cable on the Server OR does it mean something completely unrelated?

Is there a documented and/or supported process for adding a second BES account?

No, that's not true. You can still only have 1 BES account per handheld, regardless of the OS version.

Some people disagree and I really need to get this working so any further assistance would be appreciated.

The second quote seems to provide a hack way of getting this done but the first quote seems to indicate that there is a ready process under OS6:

I have been using my bold 9700 that i was able to get 2 different BES express servers activated on.. just recently I got the 9780, OS6, activated on BESX account, changed the name "default" to xxx on BDM, tried to activate to 2nd bes express server, get an warning to wipe or not before activation, i choose not to because i want both accounts. the activation process starts, then errors out saying that I have to wipe before i can activate.
- i was successfully running two EA's on the same phone with OS5.xxx.xxx, is there something different that prevents me to activate o bes more than once now?
I am bes admin for both companies so have all the access etc at my hands...
...

All fixed. Had to use usb activation for the second bes. Wicked! Back in business

Here's all you have to do:

1) Activate the first bes acct
2) Using desktop manager, connect the device and rename the service books under the synchronize option
3) Activate the second bes acct.

As long as the SB's are named the default name, you can keep adding accts up to the 10 acct maximum. If you need more than 10 bes accts you are a busy person

If you are comfortable renaming Service Books, then you should try this.

They're both hacks, and even if you do go down this road... you will not have full BES access on both accounts.
Proceed at your own risk.

No one seems to think it is possible. Where did you read it?

FAQ: Using Multiple BES Accounts on One Device ? The How To Guide - BerryReview

Step One: Activate BES 1 onto your device. You can do this via OTA or via Desktop Manager. Wait for confirmation that xxx8220;Activation is completexxx8221;

Step Two: Connect your device to BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Go into your advanced email settings. Rename your service books to something other than xxx8220;Desktopxxx8221;. *Note: Email Settings will only appear if you chose xxx8220;BlackBerry Enterprise Servicexxx8221; during your initial install of Desktop Manager. You may have to reinstall if you did not select this.

Step Three: Activate BES 2 onto your device. You can ONLY do this via Desktop Manager. You will not get an activation confirmation as a xxx8220;full activationxxx8221; in the strict sense does not occur. However, what will occur is you will see a second set of BES service books on your BlackBerry.

My problem is that on step 3 the Service Books are renamed to the 2nd BES servers and the first one is removed. Perhaps I am not renaming the service books correctly.

Default Re: How to Add A Second BES Account To An OS6 BBerry

More details:

I really need to get two BES accounts working on one BBerry and I have tried 4 times in slightly different processes but I always end up with the same issue as:
__________
SPECS:
- BES 5 Express in two unrelated Exchange domains
- BBerry 9700/ OS6
_________

Below is the process I have been following:

1: perform security wipe of DATA ONLY on my 9700

2: perform an OTA activation for a BES 5 Express/Exchange 2007 SP2 account

3: launch Desktop Software v6 (on the same network as step 2), select DEVICE OPTIONS, EMAIL tab, and change the SERVICE name from DESKTOP to RksEx07

4: Disconnect the BBerry from the PC and confirm that what was the DESKTOP folder is now RksEx07 and also that the service books show a pile of RksEx07 entries.

5: physically go to my second office and launch Desktop Software v5 and agree with any prompts (I have tried v6 but it does not seem to support wired activation so I went back to v5)

At this point I find that I only have a DESKTOP mail container, I do not see a second calendar and contacts containers.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

as Pink Floyd asked... is there anybody out there?

I received a number of private emails from people who said they have no problems doing this but no one seems to want to document the process.

It sounds simple enough so I must be very very close. I think the problem is with my STEP 5 above, but with sarcastic comments like FACEPALM, I see why people are careful to post.

If you have this working, please note your process here.

Thanks.

It works!

My problem had nothing to do with the process I was following; it had to do with an odd implementation I had at ONE of the offices. In the office I was trying to Activate using Desktop Manager, the PC I was using was not on the domain, although email works just fine.

The solution in my very odd case, was activate my BES account wireless for the account that did not have a domain connected PC attached to it. Then I simply used DESKTOP MANAGER to rename Service Books. Lastly I activated my second BES account using DESKTOP MANAGER (i.e. not wireless). It works MUCH better than I expected.

Soooo for anyone who wants to try this apparently unsupported procedure, follow this:

1: perform security wipe of DATA ONLY on my 9700 (not actually required but a good idea)

2: perform an OTA activation for a BES 5 Express/Exchange 2007 SP2 account

3: launch BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE v5 or v6 (on the same network as step 2), select DEVICE OPTIONS, EMAIL tab, and change the SERVICE name from DESKTOP to Acct1Ex07 (or any other name you want)

4: Disconnect the BBerry from the PC and confirm that what was the DESKTOP folder is now Acct1Ex07 and also note that the service books show a pile of Acct1Ex07 entries.

5: physically go to my second office and launch BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE v5 or v6 and agree with any prompts.

I will post more details on Up & Running Technologies, Calgary IT Services - Technology Doesnxxx039;t Stop & Neither Do We in the coming days.
