It works!
My problem had nothing to do with the process I was following; it had to do with an odd implementation I had at ONE of the offices. In the office I was trying to Activate using Desktop Manager, the PC I was using was not on the domain, although email works just fine.
The solution in my very odd case, was activate my BES account wireless for the account that did not have a domain connected PC attached to it. Then I simply used DESKTOP MANAGER to rename Service Books. Lastly I activated my second BES account using DESKTOP MANAGER (i.e. not wireless). It works MUCH better than I expected.
Soooo for anyone who wants to try this apparently unsupported procedure, follow this:
1: perform security wipe of DATA ONLY on my 9700 (not actually required but a good idea)
2: perform an OTA activation for a BES 5 Express/Exchange 2007 SP2 account
3: launch BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE v5 or v6 (on the same network as step 2), select DEVICE OPTIONS, EMAIL tab, and change the SERVICE name from DESKTOP to Acct1Ex07 (or any other name you want)
4: Disconnect the BBerry from the PC and confirm that what was the DESKTOP folder is now Acct1Ex07 and also note that the service books show a pile of Acct1Ex07 entries.
5: physically go to my second office and launch BLACKBERRY DESKTOP SOFTWARE v5 or v6 and agree with any prompts.
