software or OS's is NOT carrier specific.
As noted above, you would need a T-mobile BRANDED device.

One question I've had about this: is the T-mobile implementation of UMA, via devices like the 8320 and 8900, compatible with other members of the UMA industry group (e.g., carriers like Orange, Rogers, etc who also offer UMA service). If so -- I'd think that the devices that they offer for their own UMA services might work on T-Mobile's network, and vice versa -- assuming you had the proper service books sent to the device from your carrier...

No idea. T-mobile UK doesnt have UMA and I have a bold.

It's not the software. There are specific things that have to be set up and installed similar to certificates. They're not in the service books or anything that is automatically installed.

A prior post said the instructions can't be posted here, so I'll again refer you to Google.

Edit: Just checked myself, and looks some of the steps are no longer possible. So unless that's changed, looks like carrier specific phone is now needed.
