Default Problem activating a 8820

Please Login to Remove!

Hi everyone,

I am currently trying to activate my 8820, but strangely it is asking for the activation server address. I havent seen this before, shouldnt it just ask for the email address and activation password.

Anyway what goes in this box? Is it the name of the mailserver? or the bes server? (if different)

Any help would be great

Default Same 'Problem'

We have a customer who has also just received an 8820 and the handset is asking for the same information.

Would anyone be able to shed any light on this matter?

Maybe contact you company BES people and they will know. I think they will have to get your new device set up in BES anyway!

How are you attempting to activate the device? Through the Enterprise Activation feature? When does it prompt you for the server. It is a guess only but I would expect the server in question to be BES server as it is managing the activation within your infrastructure. Have you tried it? Any results?

You need but to only contact the person(s) handling your BES for your company and they will answer any questions and have you up and running quickly.

I activated my first 8820 to the BES server yesterday. I was really surprised that the user called me to ask about the server entry!!! After messing up an attempt by leaving it blank I had him add the FQDN for the BES server and he activated fine. I assume you have a DNS entry that resolves to your BES server. That is the entry you would use. ex: beserver.company.com

You do not have to put anything in the field just leave it empty. I have activated a few already and it is not necessary.

The only way I see to activate is through the Setup Wizard, nothing under options says Activation or Enterprise Activation. When I get to that portion of the Setup Wizard, I select 'I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server'. Next screen prompts for email address, activation password, and activation server address. I put in the password and email, leave activation server address blank and hit activate. It sits there for 10-15 minutes and looks like it is doing something and finally says it finished setup wizard but it's still not activated.

I use 123together for my Exchange hosting and just added BES yesterday to my account. After 4 walks through the setup wizard myself yesterday I'm bouncing emails off support until we get it worked out.

FYI, my problem turned out (we think) to be something with AT&T and provisoning. I'm syncing now, currently stuck at 72%.
