Hi,

I have a blackberry bold 9700. I recently dropped it on a hard surface and when I picked up the handset, the screen was all white and glitchy. At the time I thought the screen had cracked and figured it would need to be replaced.

Nevertheless, I left the battery out all night, tried it as soon as I woke up, still white and glitchy. Then, as if by miracle my alarm went off, and the screen was back to normal.

About a week or so later, when using the handset, I noticed that if I squeezed one corner, the white glitchy screen would reappear, then when I let go, it would go back to normal. I realised I would need to be careful with it as it may have a loose connection of some sort.

I then dropped it again unfortunately, now the white screen is back, and no miracles have happened this time!

I did read a thread mentioning 4 solder points behind the screen shorting out the screen, and figured this could be my problem, however, when I took the handset apart, I couldn't find solder points. So this still may be the solution.

If anyone has any advice, it would be much appreciated.

You should take it to an authorized repair center to see if it can be fixed or if the screen can be replaced.

Sounds to me like you damaged the screen beyond repair and might have other damage as well.

Did you drop on its side by any chance?

Can you post a picture of your screen because it's not a LCD problem it's something else and if you go to a shopkeeper he will just lie to you and he will tell you that ' oh you have broken your lcd' but in reality that is not the case so just post a picture of your screen and I will tell you the problem.

Sorry undisputed but based on your postings here, which do not indicate any expertise, I would have to agree with Dubdub.

DJ - sorry you dropped the Blackberry TWICE, but you should take it to an authorized repair shop. as suggested. It may be less costly to buy a new BlackBerry.

Thanks NJ. I must admit usually I would go straight for the screen replacement in this situation, but because the screen kept going to and from this white glitchy view to normal over the past few weeks, i'm wondering if it can still be salvaged?

DJ- now what I am going to tell you is going to work as a charm for you and will definetly save money

Your LCD is absolutely fine.It's not broken but sadly you have broken the 'Display IC'.Now go to any mobile repairing shop and ask them if they have a blackberry bold 9700 display ic.And that is it.Your done mate

Another thing 'display IC' is far more cheaper then the LCD screen hence some shopkeepers try and lie to their customers so that they pay them the heavy price of lcd.So yeah go out and get a display Ic for it.They might tell you 'no,no it's not that'but it is a display ic fault since you dropped the fone.

I think no independent Display IC Is Sold. The Display IC Is Sold Together With LCD Screen. Since The Display IC Is Soldered With The LCD Screen.
You Can Try To Connect The LCD Screen Clip Again. Maybe It Is Loose.
