Default Free Memory on 8800

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have noticed some issues related to how to have more free memory on the device, and have seen (and tried) tips and tricks to enlarge the free memory.
Just curious, what is exactly 'the ideal' free memory on a BlackBerry ?
I am having free memory of approximately 35MB on the status log for the time being, and would appreciate to have the specified free memory on 8800 as I am using this handheld now.
Thank you.

Regards,
Andika

It is generally recommended to have at least 10-12 Mb free.

Andika, welcome to the forums...

As for your question, it is a tough one to answer since we each use our BlackBerrys differently from one another. 35MB of free memory is very nice, but some of us have applications and saved e-mails/contacts/messeges etc... that are important enough to leave in the device...which in turn will take up memory. I would say that it would be safe to stay above 16MB, just my opinion. Do backups frequently (i do about once a week).

Hope that helps, but my advise for you is to use your BlackBerry to fit your needs and not match someone else's.

Hello All,

Understand, and really appreciated for all of the input.
I personally did not really interested in installing too much applications, especially those a non related to my work as I use it to support the work (off course, also having some 'fun' with it )
Thank you all..

Regards,
Andika

Your 35mb Free is excellent! I have 34.4 Free on my 8820 and it never changes that much. No leaks here as I seldom see it go between 34mb and pulling the battery does not increase Free memory for me

Jeesh....
With minimal third party Apps, I tinker with 15MB and I have deleted most of the not needed RIM Sofware to me such as Voice Dialing.

After removing a few apps, and my clearing my cache/call logs I am a hair below 20 MBs free. I was proud of that lol, 35 MB free I'd feel like I was king of the world haha. Such is life however my calendar goes back 7 months along with my emails so I can't complain too much lol. (I need what I need)
