Completely OT (sorry if this has been asked and answered): Does UMA work on a non-T-Mobile Bold on the T-Mobile US network?

Just ran a quick test on a new Bold I've had for 2 days. After a couple of days usage the device was showing 9.5MB of free memory. I fired up a few web pages and it came back with 9.3MB. I then rebooted the device (first time since provision) and it reported 24.2MB free. Thatxxx8217;s a significant figure and you can read it in one of two ways xxx8211; it may be that in another 2 days the device would have run out of memory completely and crashed, or it could be that the device would have stayed at 9.5MB for weeks. Wexxx8217;ll only know the answer with prolonged use.

Has anyone seen this RIM KB article? How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone. Some of us need to worry less about how fast memory is used and only worry about it when it gets to really low levels.

Couldn't have said it better myself! (although I have tried for about 6 days now...)

I have only tried .125 and .126 and .134.
.134 has the least issue for me and my situation.

Right. Good point. It also matters what you have on your device that consumes (has a need for) memory. Maybe you are at the threshold of good performance when taking into consideration what third party apps and modules you have on your BB. What if you now loaded that device with Viigo and Jivetalk and YWeather and a host of other apps? Would you still be at that threshold? Or would you have rebooted a day ago?

This reminds me of the earlier days of the 4.5 betas. We all played until we found one that worked for us. I suspect we will do that here as well.

Having said that... That should NOT be the case for a $700 flagship device of any respected electronics company - to leave it to enduser to a) understand the issue sufficiently to work around the issue or b) upgrade their own device once the issues have been rectified.

i found when the memory is down to 9.5mb, when browsing the web takes forever to load. After reboot and it comes back w/ 24 something mb then the performance is faster.

Anyone know how we can use that 1gb memory on bold?

What do you mean exactly? You can fill it up with documents or media, whatever you wish. I have the 4th season of Entourage on mine right now.

Actually i have the same problem, after reboot i get about 25MB everything is good everything is nice, but after maybe half-day it gets around 12mb or under and everything starts to be slow...... so i do a soft-reset.......

annoying to do soft reset twice, once in the morning and once in the evening... running .134, RIM needs to come up with a new firmware ASAP

I have a feeling that is MiniMoni that causes the memory leak, gonna test that out these couple days.

Couldn't agree more. But the problem I think we can all agree on is that updating the same OS from 1995 isn't going to work any more. I found my 6710 the other day and it was remarkable how similar the OS looks. I don't mind the same menu features etc. But it's like buying a gaming computer and putting Windows 95 on it. RIM needs to rebuild an OS from scratch.

i believe after one day of usage, that it is not minimoni that causes memory leak, i am more thinking towards the blackberry browser instead

you do realize the web page content is cached, cookies, etc.
so i wouldn't say its a mem leak as you use the browser. keep going to pages when you have 9.5 mb free and see how low it goes... or go to the browser options and clear cache, history, cookies, etc and see mem then.

Upgrade to 4.6.0.134, it improves the memory leak issue over 4.6.0.126. It did for me.

I'm experiencing similar results
while I' don't have the exact #'s right now on my bold running .134 I can have 300+ in the morning when I reboot or battery pull

by the end of the day i'll be as low as 120's

there are no apps running other then the default 5 on the task manager.

This is weird, i am using .134, on a fresh boot i get around 25MB, by the end of the day it is under 12mb, by the next day it is near 5mb, and during the rest of that 2nd day it wanders around 2mb~4mb.... however, i do not experience any lag time as in, the OS is not slow at all, it does wtv it does correctly as fast as quick and as good as a fresh bootup.... is this normal? maybe the file free display is just wrong?
