Default Blackberry Fusion Mobile

Please Login to Remove!

So has anyone downloaded the 90 day trail of Fusion Mobile yet and installed it on their BES 5.0.3 or BES Express 5.0.3?

It comes apparently with 500 CALs and I am looking forward to trying it out.

I'm not going to install it even in a test environment yet. Waiting until BBW12 is over and I can get some hands-on lab experience first. I also want to hear from the beta-chumps who actually did install the trial and hear about their headaches.

"Beta-Chumps" is a unique descriptive phrase made up entirely by DarthBBerry. It cannot be used without the expressed written consent of DarthBBerry, Major League Baseball, and the National Ketchup Foundation.

BlackBerry Mobile Fusion is a sort of a suite / family of products. There is a lightweight component called "Studio" that brings together multiple BESes into a single console with a refreshed UI styling. It is independent and does not replace BESes - it works with them. So, if you have some existing (test or not) BESes installed and they are 5.0.3.<something> (forgot what it was), you can use that Studio with them.

New PlayBook version of BES is a part of that "Fusion" family. You can use it with Studio, but you don't need to.

Downloaded today and will be installing today or tonight. I choose not to refer to myself as a "Beta-Chump" (copyright DarthBBerry), but as an "IT DareDevil" (trailblazing a path to IT immortality).

Well Fusion refuses to install on a BES server, I tried installing it on my SBS 2011 box that BES Express 5.0.3, and because it can't install JRE 6 update 22 it cancels. Plus it also wants to install the device driver that BES is already using..

When you say Fusion what do you really mean? There are multiple "Fusion" products. Also, I what do you mean when you say "device driver"?

You should be able to install BlackBerry Mobile Fusion Studio on the same machine as BES. But you cannot install other products from the Fusion family (i.e. non-Studio) on the machine with an existing BES because they are types/versions of BESes themselves.

I installed it a while back and never could logon. Too busy for a new project, so I haven't looked at it in a while. Soon and as I get some time, I'll jump back in.

I tried installing it, the installation folder was missing a file sz160180.cab from the J/ava folder, called RIM and they provided me with that. Continued installation and got an error at the AD authentication integration screen that we it cannnect to the LDAP server. Technician thought it could be the Microsoft .netframework 3.5 so uninstalled Fusion and removed all reg entries and tried again but this time installation stopped and it was complaining about a previous installation. Reverted back to a snap shot before Mobile Fusion install. Installed Microsoft .netframework 3.5 from Server manager and add features. Installed Mobile Fusion and it installed fine, but was not able to go to the Mobile Fusion console page, turned off UAC and IE ESC and was able to get into it.

You had to turn off UAC? When you say "Mobile Fusion console" do you mean "Mobile Fusion Studio"? Which browser were/are you using? For me Chrome worked best, followed closely by IE9 and Firefox, IE8 being the last option...

Fusion is easy to install along side BES/BES Express.

First you download the installer and unzip it, then copy the c:\research in motion folder to your BES/BES Express server.

From your BES/BES Express server using your administrator login (not your BESAdmin account) and find the Java 6 update 22 in the BFM folder in side the Reach in Motion folder and install it. Once done run the actual installer and select custom, then you select Fusion Mobile and follow the steps.

Part way through it will ask you for a port number; if 443 is taken select a port like 8443 and then it will ask you for the server domain level and HTTPS:// ; this is were you use the server name that your Blackberry BES Administrator points to, one thing I found with my own server is the domain level and https URL name were CAPS in the self assigned cert so I had to make them CAPs in the setup otherwise it wouldn't accept it.

After it installs it will take you the login page; you can login using BESAdmin at this point. I just not sure how you add your Playbook device to the server as my phone already is actived with BES (it shows your phone devices that are connected to BES).

So if someone can tell me how to get my tablet connected that would be great. The only thing I thought it might allow for is having two devices setup under the same email address?

I believe to activate playbook or any other qnx based or BB10 device you'll need to install Blackberry Device Service as well. It is like BES for QNX and BB10.

Yes Blackberry Device Service is required, looks like Activesync required to connect to Exchange.

When you try to install Device Services on BES 5.0 it refuses to do so and claims it's already running. When I installed FM on a separate server the device services it created were the both Administration services, plus the three essential services that are also running in BES and it set the data port to 3101.

If I go this route how is that you connect the playbook up to it?

A.

You cannot install the Blackberry Device service on the same box running BES/BES Express per the Blackberry Mobile Fusion Installation guide.

I am not sure installation is quite that easy. I am installing on a fresh server and getting the Java errors installing update 22 that abort the entire installation. I tried manually installing the Java update and did so successfully, but when I ran Mobile Fusion Setup again it STILL wanted to do its own install and bombed out again. Any thoughts?

Also, the install program earlier in the routine installs Java update 18 which it says is required. So is Java update 22 supposed to override 18 or go in its own folder?

Thanks

Once you successfully install the BB device service, and create an account for the playbook, you will need to navigate to the Web Desktop Manager associated with the BB device service and activate the Playbook via USB connection (make sure to log into Web Desktop Manager with the credentials of the playbook account you just created).
