First off, make sure you have mass storage mode support on. go to options > memory> mass storage mode on.

Then plug in the bb into the pc and drag and drop.

Default oy vey!

My phone does not have a memory option... and when I plug in the USB cable to my computer, a screen pops up and says "the software for this device has been successfully installed. BlackBerry Smartphone.. ready to use" and has a close button...

The 8700 does not support a media card.

Be VERY careful putting media onto the 8700 as you will run out of memory and start losing texts and e-mails.

You can e-mail pictures to yourself.
Ringtones must be downloaded from a web site.

Please be very careful.

You can't.
The 8700 is an older device and does not support transfer of files via the USB cable.

Post #4 is the only way.

you use the cord with desktop manager to backup the device and update the OS.

And to charge the battery.

The 8700 is several generations old. It doesn't have the capability to store media./ The entire device has 64mb of storage.

Good luck jennyhill21. My daughter had an 8700 and it was a very rugged phone, and lasted a long time---good phone.

If you bought an 8700 and intend to use it as a multimedia device, you made a big mistake. It's a business communications device with little or no multimedia capabilities. The extremely limited internal memory means you cannot afford to put more than a couple of low-res pictures on it.
