Please Login to Remove!
Ok, I followed the instruction in the first post of this thread. I've downloaded the blackberry bold software from the att site. However, the version of the software on the att site is .167. I currently have software version .190. When i go to the application loader on the desktop manager it now has an option to install bbmaps. However, there is also a bunch of other stuff that it seems to want to downgrade. For example, it says blackberry 4.6 core applications....action downgrade. When I uncheck this box it says remove.
I'm not sure what i'm supposed to do here. All I want to do is install BB maps. I don't want to downgrade my OS version.
Also, when I went to the ATT site, I could download either the desktop software v. 4.6 or the blackberry bold 9000 software. Was I correct in downloading and installing the blackberry bold 9000 software?

I haven't done anything to get the BB Maps to show up on my ATT Bold and I don't have an icon for it but I did find something interesting...
For any contact that has the address information filled in, when I view that contact, if I hit the menu button then one of the options is "View Home Map" or "View Work Map" and it actually opens up the BB Map program if you do that. It will go to that address for you, will give you the GPS option to take you there and/or it will go to your currently location (provided you are outside and your Bold has a view of the Sky).

I guess it goes on what maps are loaded on your Bold. When I try your directions, I get "Map in Live Search" which opens up a map in Microsoft Live and I have "Show on Google Maps" which of course opens up Google Maps.

For what it's worth... to get BB maps on my Bold (AT&T, purchased new in Feb 2009), I first had to pursue the instructions found here:
www (dot) blackberryforums (dot) com/gps-mapping/91383-how-get-bbmaps-show-my-blackberry (dot) html
...Except that with the Bold, you need to edit the text file on your PC called BlackBerry.alx (as the link above references older models). Note that this editing isn't for the faint-hearted. (Save a copy of the old version of the .alx under a different name just in case.) Only then was I able to get BB maps to appear as an application in Desktop Manager. It's as if this.alx file suppresses Desktop Manager from showing Maps in the list of available applications for the Bold or on AT&T. (The bastards!)
Next, after you've found Maps in Desktop Manager, it's a little scary to tell DM that you want to install Maps onto your Bold. Right away, you'll get a warning message on your BB basically asking your permission to rebuild its system. Not to worry though. All your previous downloads, mail settings, messages, etc. are preserved. Go get a cup of coffee as this update takes a while (~20 minutes).
While you're at it, you might as well have downloaded and selected a new BB Bold theme to install at the same time. Save yourself another step (and more waiting).
Note that I didn't need to uninstall Google maps from my BB before doing the above. I left it on there.
Finally, go to Settings (wrench icon)-->Options-->Theme and turn-on the new theme.
Only after I did all the above could I see the Maps compass icon and use BB Maps.
...And guess what? After spending all that time, I found out that I like Google maps much better. Meh! Google maps seems to show more detail; and it looks more familiar. Moral: to each his own I guess. For me, the effort turned to be only a phyrric victory to defeat AT&T's intent.
Best of luck to you, though!

Has anyone else's BlackBerry Maps suddenly become disabled on their Bold? Mine has sometime within the last 48 hours, and of course I'm nowhere near a Windows box to attempt to reinstall.

Yeah, I totally noticed it too. AT&T must have done something to remove it. It's not even showing under any hidden menus. They're on to us.

Any ideas??

I have tried it, but still prefer to use Google Maps. Much more power with it IMHO.

Blackberry Maps dissapeared after installing App World
Hey guys I installed the Hydra theme sometime back and my bb maps worked without any problems. Today I installed the Blackberry App World and noticed that my bb maps icon was gone. I have tried re-installing the Hydra theme -- no luck? Any ideas?
thanks!

Same exact thing happened to me. This is a Very Foul Deed, IMO! I thought I did something wrong but it was exactly after I installed that crappy Blackberry App World!
Is there a way to warn people who have not downloaded Apps World to avoid it at all cost?

It's not coming back. The new service books from AT&T have disabled it completely, no matter what theme you are using. It sucks, but it's one of those "deal with it" things.

I guess there's no way to get BB Maps back after the service books were put out? Damn AT&T!!
