Nope.
There are Intellisync connections to several popular programs including Outlook, Notes and Lotus Organizer.
BlackBerry is still predominantly (70%) corporate sales. It's not a Palm.

I asked the same question going from a 700P to an 8320. I had never used Outlook before, and after using it for a few weeks, I like it better than Palm Desktop.
After eliminating the email portion of Outlook, in my eyes it's almost an exact equivalent to Palm Desktop....only a little better. It has Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Memos (Notes) exactly like Palm, and the Media part is on BB Desktop, so I don't know how much more equivalent it could be.
I'm not sure why the original poster wants something without "having" to use Outlook...I can't think of a reason why not to use it.

sorry , i have to laugh...........
the palm desktop in mu opinion was perhaps easy to use, BUT lacked functionality when it came to syncing with anything other than the palm.
its kind of like AOL. easy to use, but a crappy program. use outlook, or even the free outlook express.

Outlook is the best program I own. It is a little intimidating at first but it is easy to learn. What is attractive about outlook is all the tools. While you might not use all of the them they are there when you need them. Palm software might be easy to use but it is very limited and can only be used with Palm.
It is kind of like when you were a teenager riding a bike. It was fun and easy and could get you anywhere you wanted to go close by. Now you have a Curve (drivers license) and it is time to hop in the drivers seat and go to the next level.

Keep in mind, the Blackberry was developed with the corporate BES user in mind. Outlook, Lotus Notes, Domino, etc. And most pc's come with Outlook pre-installed.

Not I,
No micro$haft on my Mac, anymore. I use Apple OSX native iCal, address book, and PocketMac SyncManager and all is good. NeoOffice is more powerful than m$office.

I used to be Palm dude, in fact 9 years with Palm OS.
I always used the palm desktop and never outlook.
I made a completely MAD wild decision to get a 8300 and go the BB route and sync al with outlook. In fact I use outlook 2007 and it ia a MILLION times better than the now very basic palm desktop.
I made the move and my only thoughts were.............WHY ON EARTH DID I NOT DO THIS YEARS AGO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's very cute (and very old) except with a seven percent market share, Apple doesn't really play for most people. Most people use Windows. |

It is indeed intimidating. I have always had Outlook available to me over the years and never used it because it just looked overly complicated. That is until my needs changed (new job) and Outlook Express couldn't fill the bill. My next PC has Office 2007 installed and I took the plunge to use only Outlook. I must say I am impressed. I keep everything in Outlook. It syncs to my BB 8300 and when I had a Palm it synced to that too without problems.
I wouldn't know whether to $hit or wind my watch without Outlooks Calendar and Address Book.  |

For some reason Ive just avoided Outlook in the past.
Im not corporate and dont use the overall functions of Outlook as much as most of you and yeah, Palm Desktop/Palm in general was easy to use.
But Im all Blackberry now so Ill see what I can do. Just have to transfer all my e-mail/addresses from Thunderbird now.
Thanks again.
Seems someone could really find a market with a simple "Palm Desktop type of program" as the Blackberry starts to spread out of corporate use more and more now-a-days. Anyone game?

I still don't understand... there is a "palm desktop type program". It is called MS Outlook, which is the exact program that Palm is trying to emulate.

Well for example, I have Windows XP but its the Home edition and didnt come with Outlook or Office for that matter.
So I would have to throw down some decent cash to get Outlook in Office.
If Blackberry already had a similar desktop or you could find a 3rd party app for like $20 it would seem easier, to me at least.
Am I missing something? |
