Default Do we have to delete "vendor.xml." Or doesn`t matter ?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, guys .
I`m a new user of BlackBerry ( especially The Storm2 9550 ) .

I have the Verzion Wireless ( Factory Unlocked ) . And I want to update the device Software .
I was looking for the method to do that and I noticed that most of you say :

" 2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." "

On the other hand we can update the device through the Desktop Manager
by choosing the application loader and it will search for the updates instead of having the file from the direct links you usually post them here in you forum .
So with this method ( having the update through the desktop manager ) I think there`s noway to reach the file named " vendor.xml "

And because of that I`m wondering if that is necessary to delete that file .
And what will we face if we don`t delete it ..?

Thank you

You don't have to delete it. Just rename it to vendor.xml.old

The vendor.xml just stages the phone with the carrier's preferences that released it. All OS's are compatible with their intended model regardless of the vendor that you have or that is releasing it. With that said, if you want to load an OS released by any other carrier than yours you will need to rename or delete. There is not other way around it.
If you don't delete it and it's not from your carrier DM will state their are no updates available.

Thanks, guys for your reply but, how can I reach the file path to delete it since I get it through the Desktop Manager not through direct link ?

And there`s a small other question , the latest update that we get it through the desktop manager for which carrier ?

Becuase , when we try to get the latest update " device software " through the blackberry website " direct link " we have to choose the country and then the carrier . But through the desktop manager we don`t have this option which means to me it is general for all or any carriers which means that we don`t have to delete that file , am I wrong ?

i've never used the desktop manager. i download from the direct link that gets posted when the news is out. i then erase all the files in the folder. and remove the program from the pc. download the file, reboot the pc. so there is no conflict between softwares. install the software i just download. and go directly to the file itself. delete the vendor. and then click on the apploader icon in the file.

i use some type of software that deletes the phone first though. i never do software upgrades. they never work out. clean installs is the only way for a smooth phone operation.

u wouldn't build a new house on a used foundation.
