Default 8820 Water Damage Indicator

Please Login to Remove!

Hey folks. So a few months back I traded my 8310 for a T-Mobile 8820 here on BBF.

The 8820's water damage indicator was solid reddish-pink and same with the battery that it came with. The tradee at the time said that he received it out of the box like that new and had never had any problems, nor had it ever had water damage in his ownership.

The 8820 works great and shows NO signs of water damage.

In my attempts to sell it on CL to add to the Blackberry 9000 fund, I might have some issues with the water damage indicator.

So, I guess my question is, is there anyway that some water damage indicators came like this? OR did it really get water damage?

It has never been in water since it has been under my ownership. The only thing that I can think of is when I leave my phone in the bathroom counter while I am showering and the steam gets to it? Hmm, I dont know.

Any thoughts or theories would be helpful. Thanks all...

The steam in the bathroom can do it. Your device has "been exposed to moisture." There's not much you can do about it.

that phone in that video was crud

He did have some level of moisture exposure which clearly voids the warranty.

no rip-off happened. the button missing would have been considered physical damage (not covered by warranty)

oh and phones come shipped from the manufacturer via ATT distribution. I have NEVER in 5 years of wireless sales seen a phone come out of the BOX brandnew with the Liquid damage Indicator (LDI) red.

I believe that EZ's statements would apply for most US carriers as well, not just ATT.

So I will play the high road and tell the would-be tradee's that the LDI is reddish pink but the phone works as normal. It may hinder some trades/sales, but I would suppose being upfront and honest is the right thing to do.

Would any of you guys accept a trade or buy a phone where the LDI is red but the phone works superbly?

I might be a little wary, but I probably would. The indicators on my Curve are also red and the phone runs like a dream. Personally, while I agree that the water damage indicators are important, I think they're too sensitive. However, there's no getting around that!
