Guess I need to throw out my 8330 as the Playbook requires OS v.5 or higher on the smartphones. Stuck on v.4.5 as it's the most stable for the 8330. Then again, I could wait until the QNX smartphones come out as that's going to replace OS6 I believe down the road. Maybe that would be the smartest choice as then both the phone and the tablet would be running the same OS and would lead to less compatibility issues - just an assumption.

At thia time I'd say hoping for a QNX smartphone is out of the question. RIM wouldn't spend so much time and effort on OS6 just to replace it a year down the line.

The biggest advantage of the QNX OS is that it scales up on CPU cores. They release a pad with 4 cores, and the OS needs no upgrade to performa better.

On the smartphone side, I believe we're just starting to see dual-core processors, and Marvell just announced a tri-core smartphone cpu a few days back.

RIM needs some bigger hardware upgrades on their smartphones before completely scrapping OS6.

It's just an opinion and I have no actual facts for it, but I think that's how it would roll. ;)

I wanted to upgrade to the Bold 9650 but after reading about all the battery and signal issues, I decided to wait it out - not so much for a QNX phone but for an LTE compatible phone. Hopefully within six months time there will be an LTE compatible BB and the Playbook will have whatever kinks ironed out by then. It should be a good match - hopefully!

I upgraded from the 8300 to the 9700 and what a huge difference. No matter what NEW device you take you will love it. Believe me I feel like I have the best blackberry now that I upgraded but they are going to get better and better over the next few years.

I've run 5.0 pretty reliable on an 8330 before. Just trim the fat with Shrink-an-OS first.

What should I take out w/o effecting functionality? Also, can't I decide what to take out with DM instead of Shrink-an-OS or will that not allow me to take out certain core components? I'm not familiar with that utility.

You should try and Bold 9000, could be a good upgrade, but ye i get what you mean
