Default Possible Virus on my Curve?

Please Login to Remove!

I recently upgraded to OS v.4.5 on my BlackBerry Curve 8320 from Tmobile. Everything's basically running fine except one night after I came home from work.

I placed my BB on my counter, walked away, and when I came back, my backlight was on even though I didn't press anything. I thought it was weird but "Oh well". I put my BB on my coffee table, walked away to get something to eat, and when I came back, my backlight was on again!

I picked it up and just watched it. Only a couple of seconds later, all by itself, it opened my messages, selected the menu, compose email, typed something random (I believe it was the letter "A"), and selected save as draft.

I didn't let it get any further than that. I pressed End and immediately wiped it with the JLCMDR and reloaded OS 4.5 and haven't had an problems since then.
Has anyone heard of any viruses specifically aimed at BBs? Could the HTML email have let something in?

There's no virus that can affect the BlackBerry.

Sounds to me like you have some moisture damage to your device.

Do you have an alternative explanation?

Nope, no virus. Usually moisture in the trackball or keyboard.

Besides my previous response? No.
I'm willing to bet it's moisture damage.

How does moisture create an email, and save it as a draft? It did each operation at a very regular interval.

It's causing the keyboard to think that certain keys are being pressed.
Moisture conducts electricity and when it hits the key contacts, it actually replicates a keypress.
Same goes for the trackball button.

Take your battery out of the device and let it dry out for a few days.
If it is moisture damage, which it probably is, then keeping your battery in the device is eventually going to kill it.

It is very smart moisture! Do a search for your symptoms and you will see this is always the case.

There is NO Virus / Trojan on a BlackBerry. Defective device or moisture.

Well, I guess I like the moisture problem better than a virus. I did just get home from work where I have to move around quite a bit. Maybe next time I'll try a hair dryer before reloading the OS. Hopefully there won't be a next time. Is it really documented that there is no virus ever that can affect the BlackBerry?

No, it's not documented anywhere.
It's also not documented that there's no giraffes which can speak Swahili.
Not everything needs to be documented in order to be accepted as truth.

Agreed there is no documentation. Which is a great sign.

I have had random things open on an 8700 that was left in a very damp room ( shower ) and once dried all the weird stuff stopped.
