Default OS Update for O2 UK - safe?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

I am currently on .162 using the official update on O2 UK website.

I am seeing the threads on the new .190 update - is this safe to do this, will it affect anything if it is not from my carrier?

Might be a stupid question, but as you will all relate too, this Bold is a big part of my daily life and I can't risk any mess ups

Thanks

Just do it you have nothing to lose. If it doesn't work out just uninstall the .190 update and install the original .162 OS and reload it.

It's safe for any Bold. Just make sure you make a backup. The loading process does make an automatic backup, too.

Please forgive my ignorance but I'm not too technically minded. What is OS and what difference does it make to the phone's capabilities if one has the 190 OS update? I've recently got a Bold on Vodaone. Should I look at installing this update and if so how do I access it? Thoughts appreciated.

OS = operating system
Basically the firmware/software on the handset itself.

Usually updating the software will improve various things from battery life to overall performance in terms of switching screens opening applications etc etc.

this thread : http://www.blackberryforums.com/beta...-190-wild.html
will show you the improvements users have experienced from the latest firmware.

Read through the sticky thread for the Latest OS in the 9000 forum. Most are quite happy with .190.

Being the oh-so-cautious type, I rarely update to the very latest bleeding-edge OS. I go for the last tried-and-true one, so I'm currently using .185. It's excellent!

i have yet to have any issues with .190 but i believe the only difference between .185 and .190 is tweaks in the browser. i went from .134 to .190 and it made a huge difference.

@emkwan
.190 is no longer a beta
