What I did...and it may not work for everyone (Device Model and Operating Systems vary) was download 9700 OS 5.0.0.415 and extract it to my PC. I then copied the following files from the 9700/5.0.0.415 Java directory to my device's current installed OS Java directory:
I then opened up the BlackBerry.alx file located in my current OS directory, scrolled to the section "net.rim.java.blackberrymessenger" and changed the version to "5.0.0.52". I then connected my device, ran apploader.exe and removed BlackBerry Messenger. After the device rebooted, I ran apploader.exe and installed BlackBerry Messenger. Upon reboot, I had BlackBerry Messenger 5.0.0.52 installed and running.

Yep, very nice, just installed. I have NEVER been able to get a picture to transfer in a single chat, now it works, with preview, as intended.
Here are the download links I found....
The third one at rowald.net is the one that worked for me.
The process is VERY SLOW (~30 mins) and you must click YES on all pop-up screens..
Good to know. I do know if you have to upgrade if you were using 5.0.0.8. I usually then leave things alone. This was a good build. I also notice the option to end chats
