Good question, not sure yet.
Just to be clear, you cannot sync or transfer data via the pod.

I don't think you can. The only thing I think you can perhaps do is enable the clock to go into bedside mode when charging and then under options for bedside mode, you can disable the LED.

I observed this. When you place the bold into the charging pod, when it is charging the LED does not blink. After it is fully charged, it starts to blink green... how could i disable the green blinking?

I recently got one from eBay seller chinesecatt, got it extremely quickly considering it came Stateside AND he chucked in a white OR BlackBerry Rubber Skin free as well!
Here's a pic below for those who don't know what this convenient little thing is: -

I bought 2 from this seller on ebay as well, highly recommend - fast shipping, good price!
I have a pod on my desk and one on my sidetable at home... Im no longer concerned of battery life with 3g, as it charges so much now! Love the clock it turns into at night... tip too, if you have it enter bedside mode on the cradle and press the end call key, it goes to your home screen - and stays on dimmed like the clock!

Any one recommend a good case or skin, that you can easily remove the Bold to put in the charging pod on a night, but at the same time offers good protection to the Bold, and avalable in the UK? I was going to order a screen protector as well, here:-
Martin Fields Overlay Plus Screen Protector - BlackBerry Bold
Also, is a 2 gb memory card suitable for the Bold, or is it best to go straight for a 4 gb?

This question is totally based on what you need. Personally I have a 1 gb card and that is tons more then I need. If you plan on using it as an mp3 or video player then bump up the size. If you just need a card for a few pics, 2 gigs should be lots.

For me... nekkid Bold with a Seidio rubberized holster. Perfect combo, in my opinion. I have used the Seidio holster for each phone I have had for the past three years. Swear by them.
