Angry looking for jog dial part - 7230

Please Login to Remove!

I am looking for a junk 7230. The metal piece inside the jog dial lost a leg and I can't use my push button on the jog dial. Probably a 1 cent part.

Unhappy metal piece inside the jog dial lost a leg

I have the same issue with a 7510. Any luck finding a replacement piece?

cool, thanx.
Just called them, $40 bucks plus shipping for the entire jog device.

The bad thing is you have to solder the old one out and the new one in. I wish I could find just the small metal piece.

Try to get a 58xx Blackberry from ebay for cheap and reuse the scroll wheel for your Blackberry. To do this you must be able to use a soldering iron.

Due to the case differences, I don't think the 58XX scrollwheel is compatible with the 72XX -- but I haven't seen them. Anyone with experience? Or does Promobility say they're the same?

I know that 62XX/72XX scrollwheels are interchangeable, though. (Unconfirmed for the new 7250 and 7290 which are slightly thicker, but they appear to use an identical scrollwheel design.)

I got the tip with using the 58xx scroolwheels to repair broken scrollwheels for 72xx/67xx/77xx from a guy who repaired a number of devices by this method. I have opened some of my Blackberry devices (7730, 7290, 6720, 7230, 5820) and the scrollwheel of these devices all have the same soldering pads. So reusing the scrollwheel in an other device should be no problem.

A co-worker gave me his practically brandnew 7290 but there's a catch, the jogwheel won't click. He quoted my $100 to fix it but $40 is a much better option!
