Default Does BB change time zones automatically

Does the BB automatically know when you go to a different US timezone and will it go ahead and change the time automatically?

Default Time zone

I had a 7230 with AT&T and TMobile, and now I've got a 7100t, whenever I travelled to different locations, the timezone didn't change for me.

I think about it now.. the BB has timezone setting in it.. that's prolly why it won't change.

Yes network time (if your BB has it) will change. But it will still adjust for your set timezone so you won't see the change. However on the 7100t it always says network time unavailable so far.

Is there a reason why the Verizon BB 7750 does not have an option automatically set to network time? I realize that you can copy the network time over, but it is a real pain since the BB seems to lose time everyday.

you set your time zone. the network time is likely based on one central locale which you can sync it against. however, the actual time will adjust for whatever time zone you have your handset marked for. when you sync, its simply adjusting your hours, mins and date not the zone itself.

and bperkins, if you are losing time, then you should likely check with your provider for possible hardware issues. it would be just like a computer - usually a loss in time means that you're having hardware or battery issues.

My 7230 through T-Mobile did not update the timezone when I went to Houston a few weeks ago. I live in Virginia.

None of the BlackBerrys change the time when you go to a new time zone. They leave it up to you to set the proper time zone, which will change the time of day on the BB.

That's pretty lame. Every cellphone that I've owned has updated it's date/time when it hits a new network, I don't understand why these can't.

Doesn't seem like it would be that hard to have a checkbox "Always sync to network time" instead of a one-time deal...

I think because business people may keep their appointments in their office time, and not local time, RIM gives you the choice of setting the time zone. A lot of people at work never change the time on their BB - they have a watch for that - and keep track of their meetings that way. personally, I change the time zones to wherever I am.

jibi:

Thanks for the info. Woudl it cause any issues with the phone? Reason I ask is some of my phone calls have been going straight to voicemail without ringing to my phone.

if the time is too far off, it may not turn on. i've seen that happen when it was set to +12 on the time zone, about 15 hrs off for the hour, and the year 1000 something. aside from that, i do not see any issues.

as for calls going straight to VM, i'd look at a possible network or connectivity issue rather than a time issue.

I have a time zone question/problem. I have an executive who travels to diff time zone and he updates his BB when he gets there but then when his assistant is looking at his calendar here back at home base everything on Outlook calendar has changed, For example, if he is leaving airport at 7:30 am new time will show up as 9:30 am on outlook calendar back here at home base.....does this make ANY sense the way I am explaining it?

The Blackberry and Outlook clients are automatically updating for the Time Zone change. 7:30 Mountain IS 9:30 Eastern. When making appointments, the assistant will have to convert the time the Exec is to his/her's time zone. For example, let's say the admin is in Eastern and the exec is in Mountain. A meeting at 10am Mountain would be inputted by the admin as 12pm Eastern.

Also, I know in Outlook 2003 you can program the calendar to display multiple time zones. That should help with some of the confusion.

I used Nokia phones on ATTWS for several years before we switched to BBs and maybe there was a setting I missed but mine never changed to match the time zone and I frequently traveled all over.
