Powerbook G4 on verizon, have the unlimited BB plan and want to tether with my 8830, where is this feature from verizon? i've already tried to tether and was denied, i heard that it was another $15 a month, but can't find the option to add to my account, is anybody using their 8830 to tether yet?

Verizon (as well as Sprint) do not support tethering to Mac OS. When they say 'PC', they really mean Windows. Yes, the tethering feature is additional, but worthless without a Windows laptop.

i used to be able to tether with my e815 before they locked those up, there's got to be a way, you can tether with an 8800

But can you tether your 8803e with the newer Mac Book Pro's that allow you to boot up either with Mac OS or Windows? Very curious if anyone is doing that. I'm still on a G4 Powerbook that's strictly Mac OS.

Tethering via Bluetooth DUN works with Mac OS and the BB8830.

That's not true at all.
I tether my 8830 to a G4 Powerbook every day via Bluetooth.
It's probably easier to set up on a Mac than it is on a Windows PC. No additional software required.

Just need to make sure you have the $15 tethering option on your account.
Pair the Blackberry with the Powerbook, and let the Mac do the rest.
Use WWAN Support when asked for a modem script.

There's a handful of threads that go through the setup process in pretty good detail.
I know I've posted the instructions a few times within the last few weeks.

does it work without the tethering option? I'm not looking for heavy browsing, just some things I have to do for work can't be done on a handheld device. right now I'm using USBModem on a treo to connect a few minutes a month

I am trying to use my 8830 as a BT modem with my Power Mac G4 and cannot get it to work. It asks for a username and password that I don't have. I cannot find your prior post. Can you help me?

I found the settings:

Username =
Password = vzw
Phone Number = #777

It works but my speedtest shows 121 kbps down and 107 up. Pretty slow.

I just did another speedtest with my 8830 as a BT modem and got 296/19. At 296 it's not bad. I am posting this with my 8830 as a BT modem.

Is tethering worth it? I have a MacBook and have connected my 8830 via BT. What are the limitations of tethering as compared to other connection methods?

I cannot seem to find the WWAN support in mac os 10.5

I cannot get it to work in Leopard. I get a message that says "A modem error occurred. Please verify your settings and try again." It worked for me in 10.4.

I just got it working. I went to System Preferences | Bluetooth and then in the lower left hand corner configured the device with the settings noted earlier in this thread and it worked just fine. The set up screens are just a bit different and provide more info in Leopard.
