Maximum number of spell checks a day? Is free really free?
After upgrading to version 2.0 today and really enjoying it, I received the message "You have exceeded the maximum number of spell checks per day. Would you like to buy bbSpell for $35USD now? (An invoice will be emailed to you, which you can complete within the next 3 days)."
I am very disappointed, especially since it is not a one-time $35USD, but an annual fee.
I may revert back to version 1.0 and seek alternatives.

Didn't think about that but I guess I will do the same. I already removed 2.0 after that message....

OR you could use BBCorrector (Open-Source) and create your own spell server. There is talk of people creating public ones. Personally I would rather have my own then letting someone have access to my emails.
You can download it from here:

You're right. I guess the trouble is that I don't really know how to set up my own. Is that something that you could walk me through or point me to where I can quickly and easily learn?

The release notes for BBCorrector at the website given above by Vinniet have the basic instructions of how to set up your own server. I have not set up my own server using the instructions to verify them.

Give it try, I have setup serveral of them under W2K & XP. The instruction do not have a lot of detail but just follow them to the letter and it should work.

Is there a current discount code for May that takes $10 off the regular $35 price?
Many thanks.

Double bbSpell listings in Internet Browser menu
I just installed (and registered) bbSpell. It works great, but ...
When I click the trackwheel in Internet (Cingluar) Browser, I get double entries on the menu:
Check Spelling
Check Spelling
Thesaurus
Dictionary
Thesaurus
Dictionary
That's the only place I've found the double listings; elsewhere it looks as it should.
I realize this isn't exactly a busy person's problem, but ... just curious.
Many thanks!

Thanks for registering!
Thought we had found a workaround for the double entries issue - as best as we can tell it is a BB API bug, but we'll have another look.
If you don't ever spell check outside of the email application, you can uncheck "Spell Check Everywhere" from the bbSpell control panel, and our menus will only show in the email app.

Thanks for your quick response.
Obviously, it's no big deal. I guess I'm at the point that seeing anything unusual means I must have done something wrong.
Best regards.

Legal spell check
I understand that you offer a legal text add-on. I do not see this option on the web site. Where do you down load the legal add-on and how much does it cost on top of the free advertized version and on top of the pay version?

Hi Jim,
You don't need to download anything to enable legal/medical other than the base 2.0 product. To use the legal/medical dicts, you need to be licensed on the server. We will probably not offer legal/medical for free accounts, and have not yet determined what we are going to do about pricing. Until we do it is free with the base license, but must be requested.
A bbSpell license is $35/year, but there is a coupon for $10 off here:

Thank you for the quick response. As a former palm user until a year ago, and having only recently dicovered the world of third party software for Blackberrys, I actually found the advertising on your free version interresting.
However your product is first rate and I will buy, so I can get access to the legal speller.
I do not understand those who spend $$$ for their blackberry plus $$ per month for data plans and will not spend $25 per year for a spell checker.

Am I correct to assume that bbSpell will work in the IM clients such as Webmessenger and Verichat?

It depends on how Webmessenger and Verichat are coded. You can download a free trial from our site and give it a try. Be sure to check "Allow checking Any Text" in bbspell.
