Default Device Sound Issue - Help

Please Login to Remove!

After having researched all the menus and settings as well as going online to trouble-shoot my issue, I have been unable to ascertain the cause and remedy for not being able to hear ringtones, music or videos even though all settings indicate that sound is active. The speakerphone volume has been affected as well.

I can make calls and receive them. No other device functionality has been affected. I have called AT&T and they are recommending replacement. Has anyone else had this issue? It is such a hassle to replace a device.

I have had both the 9000 and was an early adopter of the 9700. I upgraded and have been running the most current AT&T OS since it was released earlier this year with no issues. I tested the speakerphone and it failed. How would the OS be an issue? Just curious. I would have thought that the speakerphone issue would have manifested itself long before now.

The mike jack may be dirty and not making good contact to allow the transfer to the internal speaker. Try a BT headset and see if that clears the problem. If so then the jack is dirty and you can try cleaning it but its not easy. Be careful doing this. If the phone is under warrantee and ATT will replace it , do it.

I upgraded to OS .602 which is the most current that AT&T supports to no avail. I called the Warranty desk at AT&T and the rep suggested that I press the area immediately below the ear speaker and immediately above the screen on the "Blackberry" logo and it worked. All external speaker functionality has been restored thus saving me a refurb from Warranty or paying a deductible to get a new one. What exactly changed in OS .602?

you may still want to get a replacement. its sounds like there is a bad connection that you fixed by pressing on the case. whats to prevent this from happening again? and maybe next time, it wont be under warranty anymore ;)

As long as it works until the 9800 is released, I will count my blessings. If it does happen again, then I will replace it.
