Default New stealth marketing campaign?

In case you're wondering why that girl you gave your number to isn't calling you back:

Stealth marketing: When you're being pitched and you don't even know it!

Quote:
"I was with a bunch of hot girls and we would just walk into bars, whip out our BlackBerries and try to get guys to look at them by flirting," says Royter. "We'd say, xxx8216;Put your number in my phone and I'll totally call you. We'll go out on a date!' But we just wanted them to try the BlackBerry. I definitely didn't call anyone."

In Thailand I noticed that they had a very effective advertising campaign. Stars and models would be photographed at events holding their Blackberries. Sometimes even as blatant as standing in front of a Blackberry banner. Extremely effective as one person asked to buy my Blackberry from me. Two years ago no one there knew what a BB was there. There are now Chinese made knock offs with normal cell phone guts, but very convincing cases.

Doesn't sound so stealth there.

I guess the stealthy part there was the linking the celeb and the blackberry even if the banner was also a non-stealth advert.

Of course this whole idea of stealth marketing overlooks that these people are using them because they want them rather than because they are being paid or do people think Obama is being paid to advertise blackberry?

I mixed two topics. The campaign in Thailand is not a stealth campaign. It seems more similar to a product placement like a Pepsi can in a movie or GM cars in Transformers. Seems obvious to me that they're endorsing the product, they're just not spokespeople.

Stealth marketing aside, it's interesting how RIM is positioning BlackBerries as a symbol of class and style.
