Default Problem with Owner Info Screen

Please Login to Remove!

On my BB 7230, when I go into Options-->Owner, I can change the details in the Name field, but when I scroll down to the Information field, I cannot enter ANY characters (letters or numbers).

What the hell am I doing wrong??

I know it should be possible on this device because when I got it (s/h from E-bay) the previous owner's name in Name field and company details in the Info field were on the screen before unlocking with the password. (Tip: if you are buying a secondhand BB from the internet, make sure the seller includes the password!!)

Interestingly, I did a Backup of the BB's data when I received it, and if I do a Restore of that data, the name appears but not the company details. Is it possible there is a fault with my BB??

I'm guessing. Perhaps there's a security policy on the BB that forces company name? Check options > security options > general settings and scroll down. What do you see in the services field?

Very likely a company IT policy.

Tip: Don't buy BBs off eBay unless you have asked the seller ALL the correct questions and done your homework on the device you are bidding on.

I think your 8700 is a lot different to my 7230.

In my Options-->Security I have no General Settings or Services field.

All I have is:
Password: (Enable/Disable)
Security Timeout:
Lock handheld on holstering:
Content Protection:
Content Compression:
IT Policy Name:
Last Updated:

Can someone who actually owns (or has knowledge of) a 7230 help me??

Same general idea with maybe different layout.... Verify that you do or don't have an IT policy. That is most likely cause of your issue. What is in the field for IT Policy name?

I understand that the principle is the same between all the BBs.

It says "Default" in the field IT Policy name. I can select it but cannot change it.

Sounds like IT policy to me. You can't change it or delete it, only overwrite it with a blank policy. Did you look at the first link JSanders gave you?

IT Policy Name: "Default"

Sounds like, walks like, looks like, quacks like an IT Policy.

Quack Quack.

Follow the link I gave you up there ^^ and follow those instructions to remove it.

Be sure to give your eBay seller appropriate feedback for selling "dirty" BlackBerrys.

Thanks to JSanders and aiharkness.

Yep, that was it. Sorted it out using the method outlined in the FAQ mentioned above, probably while you were writing that last message. (Was a bit messy - don't usually like doing regedits but it all went well thanks to the clear instructions.)

Who wrote that FAQ?? (Interesting that it was also for a 7320). I would like to send him/her a personal note of thanks.

Unfortunately for me, I wasn't even thinking about buying a BB until I saw one cheap on Ebay (39 Euros is good for a s/h 7320, isn't it?).

I didn't know much about them and didn't know about this forum. Usually, especially when I buy new, I do a LOT of research beforehand.

My seller was an electronics specialist firm and the BB belonged to one of the directors. They didn't wipe it before sending it and they didn't even tell me the password - had to email him to ask him (I didn't know then about the '10 tries and then wiped' rule. I assumed that if you enter wrongly so many times it gets even more complicated with finding out the PIN2 and PUK codes - that's happened to me before on a mobile.)

So yes, I will give them bad feedback.

Now if I could sort out the million and one other problems I've got with it..................

Good deal.

The authors of that FAQ were "Kudos and thanks in particular to 7100simpleisbetter and barjohn of www.blackberryforums.com." They are members here.

You are in good shape. Ask away on the other matters, check the FAQs and Stinsonddogs Tips (in my sig) for great info.

Glad you got it fixed, sushi2at. I was afraid you were in policy denial.

You probably fixed some other issues you may or may not have become aware of, yet. There can be loose ends, however, that remain. One I know of (possibly) is firewall permanently enabled. Just FYI.
