Question periodic loss of data on handheld

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all,

one of our customers has a rather strange issue.
twice a day (approx. around 3am and 3pm) some emails disappear in the BB inbox, but not in the outlook/exchange 2003 inbox.
also some calendar appointments are disappearing as well as the telefon list with recently called numbers is emptied (also twice a day).

I am pretty new to this and tried to fix it by resending policy and service book to handheld, but that did not help. Is there anything that deletes data periodic on the handheld????

Wireless reconcilation is set to bidirectional on all (messages, to do, addressbook, calendar)

We use BES 4.0.6.12 i was concidering an update.

any help, hints and finger pointing in the right direction are very welcome and appreciated

thanks in advance

The BB may be out of memory. It will delete to free up space.

Memory on handheld...hmmm...that could be it.

This is the only user stil using a 7230. all others are using 8700.

Is there a log file or something where i could find proof of that?

Maybe a memory usage report or something similar?

Again i am very newbie to the whole BB and BES environment.

Thanks for the advice

Why not wipe the handheld and re-activate and see what happens. Maybe the user has installed a lot of "stuff" and it is in fact a memory issue.

Default Check for unusal processing for that user in the logs

You should check the YBOR-1BES_MAGT_(date).txt
log to see if that user is being processed any differently than the others.

Default Check Memory stats

To check memory stats, look under "Status" in the device properties.

thanks for the tip.
Unfortunatly i do not know where to look or what to look for in that logfile. (i assume it is located in the log folder in the install dir of the BES).

But I think I found the issue(thanks to the hint in this forum).
I think it is memory related, as the user just called me that it is happening again at the moment (lost emails from today).
I checked the Handheld Manager and that handheld had only 574kb free memory (after the deleting occured).
A reconcile now did not help, so i adviced to wipe the handheld and reactivate it.

I will see if that helps...at least for a while.
Also that user reported to me that her handheld turns off randomly, so i think her hardware is somehow broken. time to order the newer modell ;)

7230's only have 16MB of memory. We mandated that you had to have a minimum of 32MB to run the 4.0 OS due to these issues with loss of data. Highly suggest they "donate" that device and go on a spending spree. 16MB is SOOO 2004!
