Default Buying BB Bold Used, private seller, 3G?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, so I'm going to be buying a Bold here either tonight or tomorrow from a private seller in my area, even though I'm not buying it from AT&T, will I still be able to have 3G speeds? My current phone is a 2G Curve. I have no data plan, just unlimited call and text. Thanks.

If you have no data plan why are you worried about 3G data speeds?

If your SIM card is relatively new then, yes you will likely get 3G connection.

Make sure you read the FAQ article on buying a used BB from eBay. Even though you are getting it from a private seller, the info still applies.

3G is really only applicable if you have a data plan.

hrbuckley, I'm concerned because I'm planning on getting a data plan, but not for a couple weeks or months, depending on income. Thanks for your input.

Dubdub, the purchase is not through Ebay, locally, face to face, so I can make sure it works. Craigslist is a useful tool for finding sellers Thanks.

I'll probably end up adding unlimited data sometime soon, thanks for your help.

As I mentioned, read the article even though you aren't buying from eBay. You can and probably will have the some of the same problems. Buying a used BB isn't like buying a used cell phone or other smartphone. There are several things you need to look out for and know about.

Just turning it on doesn't mean it works either.

I took a look at it this morning, thanks. I got the phone about an hour or so ago, and am thoroughly pleased, everything I expected it to be. So far to my knowledge it works, I'm just having too much fun with the WiFi :D. I'm about to go download the Bold tips .pdf article, but if there's anything anyone can point out to me, I'd appreciate it, as I'm just now getting used to this Zeus of the device world. Thanks!

Make sure you download and read the user guide for that device.

Thank you both for your input, I have the phone, and I did upgrade to an unlimited Blackberry data plan today. I'm going through the email setup and I hit a speedbump, it appears that the device is already registered to an email account. It tells me to contact my wireless provider or please try again, is there any way to unlink this device from that account so I can use my own personal email? I have contacted the seller about the account, but information from everyone here is far beyond what can be offered anywhere else. Thanks.

Read the article I posted from the FAQ. Its there. The seller has to call his/her carrier and delete/cancel their BIS account. This will release the PIN so you can use it.

Some carriers will do it if you talk nice and provide the paperwork which shows ownership.

I read your article, good stuff. I can't figure out how to delete them, but I guess the email will just be on hold until the seller deletes his accounts. There's a weirder side to it as well:

The first time I tried setting it up, it gave me that message, but there were no links to the emails (yes, he has 3 set up apparently), so I decided to leave it alone and download BB AppWorld. When I did, I let it reboot, and as soon as it rebooted, I had 3 new emails and there were 3 new email icons on my homepage that were for each respective email. I also noticed that before the reboot, my 'personal email setup' icon was nowhere to be found, I had to navigate to it manually through the browser, and when it rebooted, the icon magically appeared with the emails. Any thoughts? I'm still browsing through your articles for any information that could help me.
