Default Blackberry Carriers for Paradise Island?

Please Login to Remove!

The boss is going to the Atlantis. His carrier, Nexte, has no BBerry service down there. We are considering renting him a device, if we can find a service that has connectivity down there.

Can anyone advise?

Atlantis? Your boss found it?

I thought it was somewhere at the bottom of the ocean? I doubt they have BB service down there.

jlarsen - no this guy isn't living on Fantasy Island, I've been to the places he's talking about. However, that was before my bb, so I don't know.

All the USA based GSM/GPRS carriers have roaming agreements with Cable&Wireless - so Cingular & T-Mobile are your best international roaming choices (and not just on Nassau - but worldwide) and should work there. Cable&Wireless also sell BB in the Caribbean, but that is not a direction you probably want to go.

Remember to research the roaming agreements before you buy a device and to get international roaming (voice and data) enabled before they travel.

Default BaTelCo

According to the research I have done, the Bahamas does not appear to have GPRS data access yet. Apparently the only carrier there BaTelCo just launched GSM service, so I'm thinking it's just a matter for time for them to roll out GPRS.

Cingular also confirms that GPRS data is not working yet:

If anyone has tried BlackBerry's in the Bahamas recently please confirm, or if anyone can confirm that it is now working please let us know (I have a friend there who wants to buy a BlackBerry).

I can't speak for the data side, but I was in Atlantis pre BB days and my Verizon phone had no issues - full digital access... Give them a call.

BTW - See if you can go along as his tech consultant for his trip. It is amazing!

I was in the Bahamas in November and had my ATT Blackberry 6710 with me. I was about a mile from Atlantis and the voice worked but the data did not. My wife's Verizon phone did not work.
