Default "Set Password and Lock Handheld" - Found - Unlock?

Please Login to Remove!

Bear with me if this is a dumb question, i'm a fairly new BES admin.

Recently one of our employees lost their Blackberry, and being the responsible admin I try to be activated the "Set Password and Lock Handheld" feature just in case it fell into the wrong hands. Our employee re-acquired the device (bb pearl 8100) from the restaurant she was at the night before.

Though now every time she needs to use the phone she has to type in the password I set.

My question: Is there any way to remove the password now that it has been recovered? I tried setting the password to a blank password but BES doesn't seem to allow that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

can the user go in and disable the password requirement? options > security settings > general settings > password > disabled

She says the password shows as disabled, but it still asks for it every time.

Are the user password and admin set passwords treated differently?

maybe the it policy wasn't updated well.
best thing to get rid of it is too wipe the handheld and activate the user again on the bes.

There's no more reasonable solution than "wipe the handheld and activate the user again"? My user is 3000 miles away, and not incredibly tech savvy (=not fun).

I tried re-sending the IT Policy. If this doesn't work, and there's no other way, how do you wipe the device to re-activate?

Thanks in advance for the help, much appreciated.

if the bes can still communicate with the device (if updating the policy doens't work then this could fail too) you can send a "erase data and disable handheld" command. this will wipe the data and allow the user to reactivate after it automatically reboots.

if the remote wipe fails then the user has to manually wipe the device (options - security options - general settings - "wipe handheld" from the menu).

then just set an activation password and explain the user what to do to activate the device.

Ahh, thanks for all the help. Luckily I was able to just re-send the IT Policy and that got it working like normal (not asking for the unlock password each time it's used).
