I just received an email from telling me that it is urgent that I confirm my password for my email account on my BlackBerry device by Oct 23 to continue sending or receiving email messages. Instructions follow to do this: Go to my Email Settings or Setup icon __> Email accounts, edit, type my password, save.

Sounds fishy! Is this a valid email from BlackBerry?

No it is not. DO NOT respond to it, it is a phishing scam.

It won't hurt to logon to the Email icon on your phone itself and logon and see if you have to verify it. I know when switching devices I've noticed you have to validate your BIS Email addresses. But it should be secure by doing it through your phone.

If they just go to the E-Mail settings icon on the phone they should be okay right? I've never heard of a BB being hacked.

The specific date seems weird as it normally just says I can't do it and you need to fix it. But there is not harm logging into the BIS site and checking things. It's not like they are asking you to send it via email.

I have switched BB's many times and never had to confirm my password. I have had to log on to the BIS website to change my device PIN, but that's it. Just to be on the safe side, I would log in on my computer. This way you know you are going to the correct web site, and you can see if it is secure. What raises a flag to me is the blackberry.com. The BIS web site is blackberry.net.

Didn't catch that. I am very sorry. Original reply regarding phising was probably correct. Just login via the PC to the carrier and check things out.

I have switched 2 devices for users and after doing the change device I noticed there was a mail icon with a red circle around it and when we clicked on that it asked to put in the password to validate the account. However I have never had anyone get an e-mail message to do it but I would think it would be safe doing it on the providers BIS website or on the phone but not by clicking on any link in the e-mail message if you have a link in it.
