Well, today is just another day of yet someone else telling me I should have bought an iphone.
My friend told me today that in his opinion blackberry's are obsolete. Although I'm still not thrilled with the gmail imap not syncing as it should, I have no other complaints.
Then my friend said that the blackberry app store is probably a bunch of dookie.
He is a former blackberry user.

Does anyone have any scoop on the supposed blackberry apps?

Tell them to send you an MMS message outlining the reasons. Oops! That's right - they can't.

So you send them the reasons you like your BB and have them copy and paste it into another email. Oops! Sorry, they can't do that either.

Have them compare their spare battery to yours and see whose.... Oops! Sorry, they can't do removable batteries, only fugly adapters to expand their phones.

PS: the iPhone won't sync GMail any better than the Blackberry. It's GMail's fault anyway.

PSS: If the app store is the best reason iPhone users can give you for why it's a better device, have pity on them. They have no clue what a real email communications device is all about.

Keep in mind the BlackBerry is not for everyone, just like the iPhone is not for everyone. The BlackBerry is not obsolete. Your friend is a former BB user, but of which device? He may have been using an obsolete device. Is he aware of the new Blackberry devices available or coming out, such as the Storm, Bold, Javelin?

I had a pearl, then an iphone, than an 8880, then an 8820, now the bold.

Two things I liked about the iphone were the web browser, and its also a multimedia powerhouse, big screen and I used it for movies. Sucked as a phone and it sucked to type with a touchscreen.

The main reason I went back to blackberry is the day to day functionality. It runs my life. I use the voice assisted gps almost everday. Email is wonderful. Calendar is excellent. Modifies and views documents very well.

The two things that really did it for me was the keyboard and actually functional gps.

The iphone looks like something for kids as well, while the BB looks very adult, and professional.

I was on an old cingular 8525 before my BB.
I considered the iphone, but I really don't like the touch screens. My old phone used to dial the last caller all the time. I would forget to lock the screen!

I've found that anyone who does any decent amount of emailing and texting doesn't like the iPhone due to the keyboard. I don't think i'd ever be able to go to a touch screen kb from the bb.

If you want a toy and dont text or emails a lot, get an iPhone. Otherwise, stick with your Bold

For proven push email, nothing beats a Blackberry. I've gone from Pearl to 8320 Curve and now to the Bold. It works for my needs: instant email, great call quality and ever since I updated to .185 great battery life as well.

The iPhone is a great multimedia phone. I like the design and clever UI but for my personal needs, it just won't cut it. Figure out what your needs are and go with the phone that answers those needs. Good luck and happy selecting.

They both do both, but my conclusion is that the iPhone excels for browsing, as much as the BB does at email.

iPhone has weaknesses elsewhere (like integration into corp environments, and the list of features above), but whatever you say I think its UI is 'enchanting' to use. Perhaps not as fast a UI as a BB, but then Linux users would say the Linux command line is faster than doing the same with Windows - that doesn't make it always 'better'.

"Horses for courses" as they say - it depends what you want.

I've given up trying to counter iPhone fanboys. If I'm asked I'll describe why (for the moment) I would buy a BB again. Maybe I'll get an iPhone at some point when they've improved some of the features - I got an iPod in the end! For the moment, I wouldn't get a iPhone OR a Storm...

I am a telcom manager / BES admin / SysAdmin for my firm, so I've played with virtually every smartphone on the market. I get them as soon as they come out, play for anywhere from a day to a month, and ALWAYS end up back on my BB. I've bounced from carrier to carrier, and had a 7100t, 7250, 7130, 8700c, 8100, 8300, 8310, 8120, 8110, and now my beloved 9000. In between I've played with various winmo devices, as well as a couple symbians. Again, always back to BB.

I currently USE my Bold, and I CARRY an iPhone 3G. Once in a blue moon I pull it out to watch a movie on the commuter train, otherwise it is relegated to my messenger bag and rarely sees the light of day. Whenever an attorney asks to get one, I pull it out, show them why it sucks, and I've always been able to talk them out of it.

Forward your friend this list that I send to people. These are all things a BB can do and the iPhone can't...

No notification light
No camera flash
No camera adjustments (zoom, image size, color, etc)
No video recording
No voice recording
No MMS
No copy / paste
Cannot forward / resend / save SMS messages
No Bluetooth audio streaming
No Bluetooth file sharing
No detailed / deeply customizable ringer profiles
Very weak vibrate function
Vibrate feature is a switch on the side of the device… I keep turning it on and off by accident
Cannot easily create ringtones from songs you own
No voice guided navigation
Cannot disable keyboard autocorrect
Cannot search email folders for messages older than the timeframe you have set to sync to
Notes and tasks do not sync from Outlook / Exchange
Battery life stinks
Can only add movies / music / pictures via iTunes
Can only use extra space as accessible file storage via 3rd party app like air share (free from app store)
Cannot type emails or text messages in landscape mode (without 3rd party app)
Cannot upgrade or expand the storage capacity
Cannot change the battery (unless you have tools and you don’t care about your warranty)
Cannot run apps in the background or more than one thing at a time

And opinions are like as....errr.... armpits... Everyone has a couple and sometimes they stink.

Do YOU like your BlackBerry? They what the heck does it matter what your "friends" say? My Blackberry does everything I need it to do. I can't find anything the iPhone would do for me that would be worth what I would have to give up from the BlackBerry. Replaceable Battery, Replaceable memory, cut & paste and all the rest listed here.

You have a great tool already. Not everyone needs a framing hammer. Some folks need a ball peen hammer. Does that make one better than another?
