Default Sprint Blackberry in Alaska?

Does anyone what kind of charges I would incur if I use my BB in Alaska? Is BBmsgr free? Is data free? Phone calls? SMS? Is everything roaming? Headed there for vacation. Thanks for any info!

Default Alaska

Funny you should mention this. My family is going to Alaska on July 18 for a cruise. I've been asking the same question. My partner went last summer and said he had no problems with phone service in the ports (this was on a cruise, like what we are doing) but sometimes got out of range while cruising. He only needed it for the phone and email.

Back when I had Sprint I used the phone in Alaska and didn't incur any extra charges (phone and SMS) - free roaming. Not sure about Data though.

Sprint is not here in Alaska. So you would be roaming. But they are partnered with Alaska Digital and ACS Wireless. So as others have said it will work. Voice and Data. I would say if you have a nation wide plan there would be not extra charge. But you might want to call Sprint to make sure your plan covers Alaska.

As for range. You will have signal in most larger cites and main road ways. But thats about it. Alaska is for the most part empty of people. (So they don't put alot of towers in the woods) Only 600,000 people or so here. 300,000 of those are here the Anchorage area.

Your welcome to PIN (246E20F5) me if you like. I can give you more info if needed. Have a great trip. I love it here.

I am moving to AK in AUgust and spent a week there in June, I am on Verizon and had better service up there than I do here in my hometown where I live right by a tower!
