Default Http 500 error...please help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey Blackberry guru's, i tried a search for this error and all queries came up inconclusive. I also posted this in the 8800 forum, but have yet to get a response...

Here's the situation, i somehow got tagged as the blackberry "goto" guy for my unit and i'm having some problems with a couple of our 8830's and 8703's. Whenever i try to access an outside webpage (google, yahoo, cnn, etc) i get the error of:

HTTP error 500: internal server error.

I tried the fix from the blackberry help site and still did not correct this problem. I tried calling Verizon and they just sent me back to the site and my communications squad. I called my communications squad and they directed me back to Verizon.

I'm sick of the run-around, would any of you guys be able to shoot me a quick and easy answer for this? My communications squad say that all they deal with is activation of the accounts, and nothing else. The thing is, of our 6 blackberry's, 2 are having internet issues and the others all work fine. They all get mail and can make phone calls. They all have the same service plan and are registered on the blackberry network.

please please please help me out, these blackberry owners are a tough crowd and i just want them out of my hair...thanks!

Are these units/devices on your corporate BES, or do you know?

unites? could you possibly elaborate?

all 6 are on the corporate BES, and from my conversations with the communications squad, all they activate are email addresses for blackberry use. I don't know if i'm talking to a newb over there, but it just seems odd that 4 of them have full functionality while 2 can only get emails and make phone calls...

1. With your BB powered on, remove the battery and hold a minute, replace and try it again.

2. If you need them to understand how to resend service books...
How do I resend service books to a user's device? - BlackBerryFAQ

I think also, if you were to go and simply delete your own, in your BB (Options > Advanced > Service Books) they will get resent automatically. But don't do that until someone more familiar with BES (I am not) chimes in here with advice.

Good luck.

Have you tried both browsers? You should have a "Blackberry Browser" and an "internet Browser."

I tried a battery pull, it didn't help. I also wiped out the device and did another enterprise activation and it still didn't solve the problem...

I don't actually have access to the BES, so i can't send him new service books unless i can get a hold of someone at the communications squad that knows what they're doing..

yep, i tried both to no avail. I was going to try and install opera, but then i realized i couldn't get online to download the program to the phone to begin with. We can't connect the blackberry's to our computers either since we're on a standardized desktop configurator that prevents installation of any non-standard software.

Try changing the default browser and see if you can hit the site then. Also, any bookmarks you have saved will use the browser they were saved with. You can edit the bookmark and see what browser it's going to use.

It sounds like something on your BES is not set up correctly, like MDS services.

Do you know what version the BES is? 4.0, 4.1?

Sounds like an MDS proxy mis-configuration to me as well.

You could try wiping one of the devices, and then before re-activating it try and browse the web. If it works, it's definitely a BES/MDS problem.

i don't know which version they're on, but would it really be an issue if the other blackberry's are working fine and only 2 are having issues? could it be a possible profile or something in BES?

Sorry - I didn't catch that 4 of your 6 users were working. Though, I still think it could be worthwhile to see if their device and service is working.

Some ideas:
At any rate - has it worked for these 2 users in the past?
Are these users able to browse external sites on a desktop computer?
Do these users have different policies on their devices vs other users?
If you active the user on a completely different device, does it work then?
You could also try re-registering with the wireless network:

since I can't post links yet...

To register a BlackBerry smartphone over the wireless network, complete the following steps:

1. On the Home screen, go to Options, or click Settings > Options.

Note: The location of the Options screen depends on the BlackBerry® Device Software and theme you are running on your BlackBerry smartphone.
2. Complete the step associated with the BlackBerry Device Software version you are running:
* If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 4.1 or later, click Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.
* If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 3.7.1 to 4.0.2, click Host Routing Table.
* If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 3.0 to 3.7, click Network.
* If you are running BlackBerry Device Software 2.0 to 2.7, click Network Settings.

Note: Some BlackBerry smartphone users running BlackBerry Device Software 3.7.1 might find the Register Now option on the Network screen menu.
3. Display the menu and click Register Now. Your BlackBerry smartphone connects to the wireless network.

I doubt it's the case, but it could be worth checking to see that the browser service book exists ... If it does exist, it could be corrupt in which case your BES admins would have to re-push them.

look for KB03151 on blackberry's website.

Hope this helps...

ahh, good tips! i tried the re-registration, but it didn't solve anything.

I'll try asking our communication squad to push the service books again. Hopefully i'll talk to someone who knows what that is...

Do the 4 that are working have a different IT Policy than the two that are not working?

Options - Security Options - General Settings. Scroll down to see what IT Policy the devices have.

i'll check on the IT policy's, but if they are somehow different, how do i go about rectifying the problem? should i just tell my communications squad that they're idiots and don't know what they're doing?

Hi,

just make sure you are using the internet browser as the default browser.
this will happen if you are using the Blackberry browser and it tries to authenticate through your proxy server.

As for the 8830, we found that his internet access was not turned on in his email setup...after we checked that box, everything worked fine.

anyways, thanks for all the help everyone!
