Can I sync personal calendar if using BES
Please Login to Remove!
Hi,
My blackberry currently uses BES for email, etc. I would like to sync my personal calendar from home to one of the other calendars on my blackberry (associated with different email addresses that I have), but I can't figure it out. Is there a way to do this?
If you are wondering why, here is the reason. Everyone at work can see my calendar that syncs with BES. I may have some items that are personal and that dont apply to work, such as my families birthdays. They don't need to see these and they also don't need to be filling up my work calendar.
Any help?
Dan

Device: Curve 8330
OS: v4.5.0.77 (platform 3.2.0.51)
Not sure if that is the OS because it doesn't actually say OS on the screen, but I think that is it.

Is v4.5.0.77 the os? If so, that is what I have. Otherwise, there is nothing in the "about" that specifically says OS or operating system.

If the company IT Policy allows it, you should be able to do so. However, I don't recommend mixing company and personal info on a device connected to BES.

What is your reason for not mixing the data? How exactly can you change the policy using the BES?

And what IT Policy setting would that be?

You can't change the policy. Only your company and the BES admin can.

Best practice is to assume that nothing on a company BES-connected BB is private.

Oh, that's best practice now? Did I miss a memo?
I'm amazed that this FUD continues to live on in this forum.

This is a very small company where I handle a lot of the IT functions. What I can't do I outsource to a local company. If I need the policy changed I can just do it myself if I know how. The guy I usually use is not a BES expert, so he may not necessarily know how to change that specific policy. I have access to the Blackberry Manager.

You don't need to do anything on the BES.
On the device, go into Calendar > Options.
Choose the calendar you want to work with, then change Wireless Synchronization to No.
If BES is syncing your calendar wirelessly, then you can't sync that calendar with anything else. Once you turn off Wireless Sync, then you can sync that calendar with whatever you want.
If you want to keep the BES calendar sycning wirelessly, but also have a separate Personal calendar, then you might want to look into using Google Calendar and Google Sync.
You'd have two calendars on your device, and they won't mix with eachother if you don't want them to.

penguin3107,
Two things. First, let me make sure I am on the same page with you as far as google sync. Are you suggesting that I use the google sync tool to sync my home outlook to google calendar, and then just view that calendar through the google calendar app?
Second, let me briefly explain the calendars I currently have on my blackberry in case it helps at all. If I go to Calendar, then options, then "select calendar..." I have 2 calendars listed. The first is "Desktop" which is the calendar that syncs with my work calendar, BES. The second is called "dcw1@..." which relates to a secondary email that I have set up. If I enter items in the calendar and change the "send using" to "dcw1@..." it will not sync this entry with my work outlook. So basically, I just wish there was a way to manually, via my personal desktop program, sync "dcw1..." with my home outlook.
Does that sound possible? It doesnt seem to extreme to me but it is starting to look like they dont allow it. However, if some sort of setting could be chaned in BES I could have that done.
Thanks again.
Dan

If BES settings are set to allow only corp calendar - your option for personal calendar sync - is to get another blackberry and sync it with service like Google Sync

So how can you change the setting so it doesn't only allow corp calendar? I have access to make the changes, I just don't know how to do it.
Thanks.

One again... this is incorrect.
BES wireless calendar sync is not an item that can be forced upon the end user from BES.
You can turn this feature off on the handheld as described above.

Not exactly. Handheld OS 4.5 and above supports multiple and separate calendars on the handheld.
Im suggesting you keep your existing "work" calendar as is, and continue to sync it via BES to whatever you're using at your office for calendaring.
In addition, I suggest that you consider using GoogleSync to sync your "personal" calendar on your handheld directly to Google Calendar (online).
Both calendars "work" and "personal" would show up in the calendar app on the handheld. You can even pick different colors for each, so you can easily distinguish between the two.
If you have a way to sync Google Calendar (online) with your home Outlook, then that's a bonus.

Yes, it's possible, but not in one step.
See above.

There's nothing in BES that needs to be changed.

So if your using Google Sync do you need set your google calendar entry to Yes or No for the Wireless Sync? Does Google Sync know for sure to use that particular calendar?
